Is this supposed to be THE announcement, the big dog, the grand poo-bah? Or another int he string?

I need to be told how properly excited I should be.  I'm starting to look at BOk announcements like good news, but the kind that doesn't effect me (aka. Co-worker's sister had a baby... I'm happy for you, but really...).  Thus far, I wouldn't pay 50% of the ticket price to see any of the groups announced (again, good acts to land, just not for me).

Big announcement isn't until July.

I'd rather listen to hours and hours of fingernails on a chalkboard than listen to Springsteen.

Springsteen:

haha, I've got to give him a little credit.  Not my favorite, but I definitely don't hate it.  These days he is performing traditional/old timey and bluegrass tunes along side some arena rock of course.  He is one of the biggest ticket sellers in the country, but you guys can stick with Seline Dion if you like:)
Vote for the two party system!
-one one Friday and one on Saturday.

I hear ya.  I think what I'm concerned with is that every act booked, regardless of its artistic merits, is likely to sell out the arena.  As long as these announcements continue along that vein, it shouldn't matter if it's N Sync's reunion tour--anything that shows that this building will be filled on a regular basis is important both to keep momentum from the opening downtown as well as for the long term financial health of a public venture.

And Springsteen still rules.  Forget his work from the 1980s (even though I like that too).  Go back to 1975, and if "Thunder Road" doesn't give you chills . . . I can't help you.  Further, go forward to 2002--The Rising is still, to me, the most moving artistic statement on 9-11.  Dude's a legend.

Springsteen SUCKS! Talk about a HAS BEEN!

i'd be interested in seeing Chris Gaines opening the arena.
I'm not so sure about that Garth Brooks character.

I hope that Garth DOESN'T open the Arena. We already have a country act, and one that sells more tickets. Garth coming to Tulsa isn't news since he lives here and the fact that he opened the sprint center is yet another reason not to have him. Not to mention, that would put Garth playing the day before Kenny.

We need Rock. We need Clapton. Even Kim Jon Il agrees.

P.S. They are announcing the opening act in July.

Fair enough.  But methinks you underestimate Garth's draw.  If he were to actually un-retire and tour, there is little doubt he'd be the #1 concert draw in the country.  Don't forget--he sold out five straight shows at Drillers Stadium back in 1997.  The stadium was configured for 16,500 seats and so he drew over 82,000 in a span of five days.  In Tulsa.  And the fact that he's been retired so long means that any Tulsa show would be a national event.

I think Garth Brooks would be the biggest possible act the BOK Center could book.

I think the reason to not book Garth is the fact that he has played at Drillers Stadium all those times.  Garth Brooks at the BOk Center doesn't provide a "wow" factor.  For $183 million, it would be nice to open the arena with someone who would normally never come to Tulsa.  The arena is supposed to represent this "new kind of energy" in Tulsa, especially downtown.  The opening act should represent the same thing.

I don't think Chris Gaines has ever been to Tulsa.

10am is when they are announcing whatever "it" is...
