BLAH!

the acts for this arena are really ****ty.  Celine Dion and now this?  Give me a break.  When they get someone for real like Clapton let me know.

I thought they held CountryFest or whateverthe**** out in Pryor.

Composer

I hope this is the last Country group coming besides Garth, who has already said he would like to be in the opening in some way.

sgrizzle

They have Kenny Chesney too.

I think this goes even further to support the idea the opener, which won't be announced for months, is going to be a rock concert.

Rascal Flatts.

Yet another example of a GREAT act coming to the BOk (artist of the year I believe) but something that has no interest to me at all.  Sorry, but if tickets to any of the events thus far were $25 I probably wouldn't even go.  They just don't interest me.

I am a young professional who is not in to country music.  I've been to a few country concerts on the cheap (including Garth before he was popular), but have been to more Opera than country concerts (not to say Opera is by concert bag, baby).  Chili Peppers, Cold Play, Tool, Nine Inch Nails... something that has been on the pop charts in my lifetime at least.

Good job getting big acts, but if you target the country market over and over won't we exhaust it?  How many big time concerts does a country fan go to in a period of 3 months?

like someone else posted in that TW article....I'm going to stick to Cain's...the quality acts they bring in make these look like a joke.

You guys are really trolling the bottom...Look..I am not particularly interested in Rascall Flatts either, but the point of the venue is to provide a stage for a variety of artists and interests.  The show will likely sell out, and that is a good thing.

And regarding Cain's...75% of the shows at Cain's hold little interest for me.  Cherrypicking a few bands that play there and citing that as a reason that Cain's is a better venue is bogus.  I happen to love the place, and believe that it is a real asset to the city, but indicting the BOK Center event planners for picking out acts that don't meet your taste requirements, and using Cain's as a standard is crap.

Let's take a look at the current concert calendar for Cain's.  I will highlight the shows that hold any interest for me.  The purpose is to point out that, in order for a venue to succeed, you have to host a variety of acts that cater to the broader public interest, not just ones that rank high on the music snob index.

6 acts out of 30 scheduled that I would be willing to pay money for....does this mean I think Cain's is doing a bad job programming their venue?  NO. On the contrary, I believe Cain's is doing a very good job.  I want them to stay in business, and beyond that, to prosper, so that Wilco or Elvis Costello or Morrissey or Lucinda Williams will have a place in Tulsa to play.  Likewise, I want the BOK center to sell out and prosper so that artists like Clapton and the RHCP will have a place to play.  So no complaints from this kid about Celine Dion or Kenny Chesney.

RecycleMichael

Rascal Flatts is the first act I want to see. I think jukebox country music is kind of the special olympics of music and Celine Dion is kinda frightening.

This is more bluegrass country. I like it.
Power is nothing till you use it.

AVERAGE JOE

Taylor Swift is opening for Rascal Flatts. Any of you guys care to reconsider?

TulsaSooner

Before you reconsider, consider this:  Taylor Swift is in high school  [:D]

There will be non-country acts, give them time and be patient.  But don't be surprised that there ARE country acts, this arena is in Tulsa, OK and there are a fair number of people here and around here that are huge country music fans.

Renaissance

She's pretty.

I agree with Kenosha.  Don't get all fussy just because the current top concert events don't meet your taste.  Arena acts must, by nature, cater to the lowest common denominator to sell tickets.  Rascall Flatts is the nastiest country boy band crap on the radio, but I'm fired up that they're coming here.  Why?  Because they wouldn't have before.  And people will fill the arena to see them.

And as for Garth--if you're not a fan, you might not understand the fanaticism that accompanies his shows.  A Garth opener would be a nuclear event in downtown Tulsa.  Huge.  You think the fact that 80,000 people saw him 11 years ago diminishes his potential draw here?  Demand would be stratospheric.

And I just found out my mother has tickets to the Kenny Chesney show.  My mom.  Going downtown to an arena show.  With all her mom-type coworkers.  Seriously.  That's what we're going to see with this arena--folks going downtown for the excitement and nightlife who've never been there before.  It's going to be good.

sgrizzle

I came up with 4 on Kenosha's cains list. I also discovered we are never going to bump into each other at a concert.

breitee

Typical for Tulsa. Rascal Flatts? Give me a break. I'm sure that all the s**tkickers will love it but how about something that appeals to the majority of fans? I agree. Bring on Clapton.

grahambino

Well for the audiences sake, I hope the sound man can use Pro Tools on the fly.

I would definitely pay to see Union Station.  Not saying they have the "wow" factor for the big opening act, but I'd definitely pay what ever it cost to see them at the BOK Center.

Aside from their obvious hits, they are incredible musicians.  Their CD's are amongst the few in my collection that I can honestly say I like every single track on every disk.  And I'm not a huge country or bluegrass fan either.
