I first came across Rex Chicken at Li'l Abner's Dairyette in Catoosa, way back in the mid '70s. CJ's at 21st & Garnett had it too. It gave little burger joints like Li'l Abner's an easy way to add chicken to the menu. Seems like you could order the chicken by itself, with fries, or with fries and a salad.

It was sometime around 1980 that they opened a Rex Restaurant -- there was one southeast of 71st & Memorial.

I used to bring home a family pack from the 15th St. store (now Paradise Donuts) or the 81st & 145th store: Grilled chicken (half with jalapenos, half without), okra, coleslaw, and fry bread.

I'm thinking the restaurants finally faded away around 2000. Rex chicken as a menu item in someone else's restaurant brings it full circle.

no they just serve rex's chicken, they arent putting a rex there.  and rex's chicken was gross...who would want to bring back that crap.

What exactly is it you eat?  (insert snicker here) Everything is either gross, marginal, or disgusting to you.

I have to side with Inteller on this. The "Rex's Chicken" at Coney beach has nothing in common with the real Rex' Chicken other than the name. It was horrible. No, beyond horrible.

The Coney's are ok at best. For what they cost though they should cause spontaneous orgasms when you bite into one.

[}:)] that is great.  did they give you one of their "ideal cards" or whatever the hell they are...outsourced frequent eater cards.  "Ideal Card....ideally accepted everywhere but in reality accepted no where"

These guys should have stuck to camille's....these concepts suck suck suck.  bring something original to Tulsa...like a reasonably priced tapas place.  Oh and Fresh Berry is the biggest concept ripoff I've ever seen.  You can't tell me they had never heard of Pinkberry.  I'm surprised Pinkberry hasn't sued yet.

Rex's Chicken from the Linda Mar Drive-in was the best! I miss it. Charlie's Chicken is doing a jalapeno chicken that's pretty good, but it ain't Rex's.

I thought he liked Purina Troll Chow.

I really do miss Rex's grilled chicken, green beans, and fried bread. My family used to go once a week to the one on 15th, man do I feel old and I'm only 25. There are only 2 food related things I miss Rex's chicken and the Wendy's salad bar.[:D]

that sounds like something you can cook at home.

Maybe they should just sell the fry mix at the grocery store.  At this point I think Coney Beach is just looking for any **** they can sell to stay in business.

My mom used to take me to the Rex's around 71st and Lewis (it is a mexican restaurant now) in the early 90's. I liked the jalepeno chicken bites and fried bread with honey. At some point it seemed like they really cut down on the portion sizes and jacked the prices way up, so mom wouldn't take me there anymore. The last one I remember was located at 101st and Sheridan or Yale I believe.

We went to Coney Beach and my mother ordered the Pennington shrimp, she said it was disgusting.  I had a burger that wasn't any better or worse than burger king.  The fries were marginal, but the ranch dip was fabulous.  The only good thing about the trip was that they gave me the recipe for the dip, which they probably weren't supposed to do.  The prices are way too high and the food is NOT worth coming back for.

There is a Greek restaurant in the strip center just to the east.  The girls are very friendly, the prices reasonable, the atmosphere is relaxing and clean, and the food is absolutely yummy!!  Sorry, can't remember the name of it.  If you like Greek food, it's worth the drive.

You should post the recipe.

no, the prices at Pita Place are NOT reasonable.  Plus he buys all of his **** at wal-mart across the street.  woo-hoo.  I'll just make it at home myself thanks.

Is that the spin off from ShishKaBob's over at 31st and Garnett?

wordherder

I'll agree on Pita Place not being worth it.  The food is fine enough, but it's EXACTLY like the food at the "It's Greek to Me" places at Woodland and Promenade malls, only at twice the price.  I'd rather go there when I'm jonesing for a gyro.

Come to think of it, they're opening up a new location at the Spiritbank events center, which is near Pita Place.

yeah when they go in at Spirit, Pita place is doomed.
