They can't announce an opening act when you might have to change the opening date.

Of course we all trust them since it's only been changed 2 or 3 times [;)]

Some of the people think that everyone is making thousands of dollars each week.  Next time you stop at a fast food establishment ask the workers how many hour they work each week for the minimum wage.  You will be surprised at how they regulate it to where they work less than 40 hours weekly to be classed as temp employees.   Just tip them $70 dollars the next time you stop for a cup of coffee.
Today we stand in ecstasy and view that we build today'
Tomorrow we will enter into the plea to have it torn away.

Those arent real jobs anyway and nobody expects to "make a living" at them. They are supposed to be temporary jobs. Good for high school kids, someone who wants to make an extra buck like some elderly people, a second income for a while, people who are going to college and need part time work to make some extra cash, a starter job to show you have what it takes to work hard, keep a schedule, show up etc. etc. A lot of young people I know use those types of jobs to travel and see the world. There are places in some countries where you can learn to wait tables properly or bartender, you get a liscense, then you can backpack arond Europe and other places. Being a cashier or flipping burgers is not a career or something anyone would expect to live the high life on. I did my share of restaurant work, for years worked 2 jobs a day, one during the first half, another in the second half, started in the early morning, got home at 11, 11:30 at night in order to survive until I could get a better job and get through college. As a young person I was glad there were jobs that didnt require any skills which could get me started. And thats mostly what those jobs are for, to get you on your way, not raise a family on.

It seems to me like you book who you can book when they're available. These famous people have schedules, you know?

Much like many have stated, I won't be at the Kenny Chesney concert, but I sure am glad he's coming...same with Rascal Flats. If there's a stretch of country music, so be it. Surely there will be a stretch of Genesis, Police, Stones, Springsteen, and Elton John somewhere down the line...with a sprinkling of Streisand.

I think Tulsa has a real shot at getting the American Idol tour as well, which will be huge. There are a couple of pretty popular Okie females that would probably do well - Reba and Carrie Underwood. I think Reba has been on tour with Kelly Clarkson.

We throw a little basketball in there, some Talons football, Cirque Du Soleil, etc. and we'll have a nice full calendar.

Somebody better get started on building that hotel where the current city hall sits.

Also, I was thinking about that parking...I live by TU. There's not much parking at all on the campus and yet somehow 35,000 people (twice the arena capacity) manage to find their way in to that stadium. . . and don't tell me that some of them are students who walk.  I already subtracted that amount (roughly 300) from the total. Hopefully people will be able to do the same downtown....with a far greater number of parking spaces.

Calm down Joe. We know you got a lot a bread to bake and make. But the trickle down disposable income in Tee town won't even break even all those acts unless they are spread out over the next 5 years (and the elite go to Vegas, NYC, SF, and elsewhere to catch "the shows"). Hopefully in 5 years, "they" may have their parking nightmare solved except on nights the PAC has an event or the new Ballpark is flush. BTW, that same nightmare will adversley effect your sales on areema nights that are sold out and/or overlapping other "cultural" shows.
Go slow Joe. It's nice to have an oven in the district....you will do well by city hall.

I disagree FOTD.

I think pizza guy is closer to what will happen. The big acts find places like new iconic arenas and will want to play in them. We also have a new booking company with proven success all across America.

We have never had such a cool arena and such opportunity to promote our town as a concert venue. The Cain's has been good, but combined with the Arena, D-fest, etc...this town could be a great live music hotspot for a few years.
Power is nothing till you use it.

Renaissance

Expect the Rolling Stones, eventually--if they don't keel over first. They've played Oklahoma City, Omaha, Missoula, Wichita, Austin, and Boise over the last few years.  There are rumors that they'll be doing another arena tour in 2009, and I would think that the newest arenas in markets they have not played will be on the list.

I'll bet you a pizza that parking is not the issue you believe it to be. The whole point of not creating dedicated parking is to "force" the public to park and walk.

When people have to walk, they have to pass restaurants and bars. This phenomenon is inevitably good for the entire area.

As you can imagine, I can't wait for the night when Rent is showing at the PAC, Daughtry is playing the BOK, and the Drillers are playing a home game. That could be as many as 30,000 people downtown just for those events. People have to eat! I'm not an expert or a fortune teller, but I seriously doubt "event overlap" will "adversely affect" my business. . . I expect the quite the opposite. Every restaurant in town would kill for "event overlap" within a few blocks of their front door.

There's a thread somewhere on the forum about downtown parking. Someone even took the time to color code the thing. People will find a place to park and it will benefit the whole of downtown.
