QT, in my opinion is a great store.  Why do they have so many repeat customer's?  If they did not sell gas do you think that they would be, for the most part, as successful?

Perspectives from Perspicuity:

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/bestcompanies/2007/snapshots/20.html

QT is consistently cited by national publications as being one of the top companies to work for in the country.

Everyone buys gasoline, but gasoline does not provide much of a product margin.  QuikTrip pioneered the convenience grocery concept.  To answer your question Buzz, you might ask yourself if Food Pyramid or Reasor's would be successful if they didn't sell milk.  Milk, you might say, is a staple good!  So why is it always at the back of the store?  If someone comes in for only one gallon of milk, they typically walk out of a large grocery store with at least one other item.  The other items are conveniently located where you see them on your way to and from the milk isle.  The same can be said for QuikTrip- they provide products to people who want them now, even if they came looking for some staple good- gasoline.

Gasoline may be their core product, but it's probably also their least profitable product.  What gasoline does most for QuikTrip is create potential customers for the convenience goods.  They have created invaluable customer loyalty that yields everything from Facebook group fan clubs to the kind of brand insistence that causes some people to run out of gas passing 5 gas stations in search of a QuikTrip.

Love 'em or hate 'em, you have to admit, they're good at what they do.

They were the 20th best company in 2007 to work for (according to Forbes) and they are 28th on the list for 2008.  They now have a full time DR on staff that employees can see for free.  Their thinking is that if someone can go to the DR for free it will stop them from getting any worse and therefor not call in to work.  They say it is working too.  Great idea IMO especially the rising cost of healthcare, etc.

There is nothing innovative about having a doc on staff.  City of Tulsa does it.  Williams had done it in the past before the company went in the toilet back in 2002.  I think people would give QT credit for inventing air if they could.  The fervent enthusiasm over this corporate weasel is overblown.

I get it. They turned you down for that entry-level part-time counter help trainee position and you're bitter.

It all makes sense now.

The stores are head and shoulders above just about every other convenience store I've been in.  Tulsan's are lucky to have them.  I go out of my way to find one here in Dallas.

I don't think Inteller applied for a job at QT. That would have required initiative.

I think he hates them just because we like them. He thinks he is gravity to our flight, but he is really nothing more than friction.

maybe you misread my statement or are too dense to understand.  I will give you the benefit of the doubt though.  Not once did I ever say they invented it or that it was their innovation.  I simply used that as an example of why they are one of the best if not "the best" in this state to work for.  Do you get a paid months vacation after 20 years on top of all your other vacation time? Do you get free healthcare after 5 years? Do you get free healthcare for you and your spouse after 10 years?  Does your company hand out 1000 dollars in AMX gift checks at their annual meeting to 5-10 random employees who attend?   Whether you believe it or not, they are one of the top companies in the country.

I just gotta say that QT's spicy beef taquitos are pretty damn tasty.

I didn't have time for a proper sit down lunch today so on my way back to the office I stopped in at the QT on 15th & Denver and grabbed a couple of the taquitos. Just finished them up and they were far better than I expected. For $2 you can't beat em.... I would go so far as to say they were better than the ones I have had from Taco Bueno or Taco Bell.

Is that all that great?   Those benefits aren't bad, but come on, they aren't something to dance a jig over.

More likely, he hates them because at busy times you have to wait on a pump at the QT near his home, unlike all of the other stations in the general vicinity, which are almost always abandoned. (seriously!)

Between that and the 1.5% less energy in their gas, how can anyone like them?! [:D]

yeah, random AMX gift checks?  Hell I get those all the time, no randomness involved.  Let me ask this....does QT give out BMWs?  No?  man what a ****ty company.

They are at the donkey end of the energy sector, good thing I'm not.

They don't them give them out, but they pay my fiancee enough that we purchased a new 2007 BMW 335i.  You get random AMX gift checks just for showing up a to a meeting? you and your family get free health care after 10 years? You get a monthly check for 1% of the companies profit?

Do you have any idea how much each store profits a month?  We are in a day in age where companies don't have the perks that they used to.  It's good to see QT still does.  Hence why their turnover rate is so low and its continuously ranked as one the best companies to work for.  Not all QT employees work in a store, they are headquarted here as is their air travel department.

oops, the cat is out of the bag....no sense in trying to convince you otherwise, you are a member of "the club".  So tell me, have you defaced the license plate on your Bimmer with a QT sticker like all the other cultists?

no sir.  We don't need one of those stickers.  I interned with TPD for 2 yrs.  One of my uncle's is an attorney in the DA's office, and several of my buddies from college are troopers.  I have that area covered! But thanks for your concern.

I'd like to see some more scientific research on mileage from QT gasoline.  I'd also like to hear how people KNOW that a company isn't selling 10% ethanol when it's legal to market gas with 10% ethanol as 100% gasoline.
I just filled up with Sinclair gas in one car, and with Murphy in another, and after a tank full in each, I SEEM to be getting much better mileage than I have from QT gas for the last 20 years in both cars, but it will take several tanks to confirm this trend.
