Can all of the ethanol haters stop being ego-centric for a while and embrace something that is good for our country and bad for the middle east?  That 10-15% of ethanol is made right here in the U.S.  So, you're all basically saying that you don't want to stop foreign oil dependency and start helping American farmers for your own personal interest.  This is so much bull****.  Go drive your Prius to Phillips or wherever and get your extra 2MPG...that is IF you drove the exact same route at the same speed etc...which I'm sure you didn't.  I bet all of you guys think Huckabee is a cool guy too.  Holy crap.

Well except for the fact that the sudden push for ethanol is causing food prices to rise. Corn based products are in a helluva lot of things. Hell it is even causing the price of milk and meat to go up since cows are fed corn. Rising price of food = inflation = bad for everyone.

As for my driving habits. The Prius is our commuter car. It is driven the exact same route every day of the work week and is driven at, or below as traffic allows, the speed limit. It is not driven on weekends when our drving habits are quite different.

What the hell does this have to do with Huckabee? Not that I would vote for him...but that's a helluva reach to make in a topic about QT.

Well, without ethanol, the price of gasoline & diesel increases, so that increases the cost of getting the other 10% of corn to market, animals to slaughter, etc.  I don't know that it really impacts it all that much.  I think we are finally seeing the reality of $2.50 to $3.00 a gallon motor fuel means to us.  Get ready to grab your ankles when it surges to $4.00.

On another note, making corn from ethanol is about as stupid as one can get...

When you get less power out of it than it takes to produce, somewhere someone is getting rich of that scam.

Ok, I had to make a few calls but here's the skinny on E10.

All Oklahoma gas stations currently use E10 fuel, and are not required to disclose any alcohol content at this level and below.  Gas stations are free to make the statement "100% gasoline" and "No Additives" even with the added 10% ethanol content.  Stations may also state "no ethanol" in any fuel blend with 10% or less ethanol.

Phillips, Kum-N-Go, Murphy, Shell, Texaco, and most independents use the product because of significant tax credits.

E10 actually costs more to manufacture, but federal and state tax incentives make it a less expensive option for stations.

At times stations offer fuel that does not contain 10% alcohol when domestic refining is under significant stress and distillation plants can't keep up with fuel demand.  This usually results in a fuel price increase.

Attendants and gas station owners rarely have any knowledge of what particular blend they receive in a shipment.  Disclosure is only necessary when the blend exceeds 10%.  Blends range from E2 to E10.

E10 causes a mileage reduction between -.35 mpg and -.5 mpg in fuel injected vehicles.  In older fuel injected cars, with more significant fuel tank ventilation, E10 can affect mileage more dramatically due to its ability to attract moisture.

In conventionally aspirated vehicles (standard carburetor, rather than EFI), E10 can actually cause mileage increases due to the addition of water vapor in the intake manifold enhancing combustion.

Interesting Tulsa Link:

Williams Energy, located in Tulsa Oklahoma, is a major marketer of the ethanol used in E10 and E85 blended fuels.  Williams provides the marketing and distribution services for ethanol distillers nationwide.

Spoonbill, wasn't even quite 8 years ago people were starting to put a wooden stake in Williams' heart was it?

Yeah, they just keep chuggin along.  I think they strayed too far away from their core business, and by the time they realized it, it was too late.  They are a good investment now, as long as they don't stray again.

yeah, I'm embracing something.  It is called the death of the internal combustion engine.  A plugin hybrid, coupled with a reusable hydrogen fuel cell supplied by a solar powered home hydrogen generation system is the way to go.....and in the process will make places like QT a thing of the past.

Everyone will just get their hydrogen and electric fillups at QT.

Even if petroleum is gone, I guarantee people will still get gas at QT.

Only if my fuel cell makes coffee and beer!  QT makes far more money on the sales of merchandise than fuel.

But, according to you, I may be wrong, the scopolamine they mix into their coffee gives them complete control over my mind.  In fact, if I understand correctly, QTs are nothing but empty facilities used for brain-washing and indoctrination.  Help me Inteller, I try to resist, but their mind-control is too strong.

Only if they manage to get all of their cult like followers addicted to their QT kitchens garbage.  Hydrogen refueling will not be done at a convienence store if Honda has their way.

and believe me, Honda will get their way.  And being powered by natural gas, this state will be all over that.  I can see ONG promoting the hell out of these things.

QT, in my opinion is a great store.  Why do they have so many repeat customer's?  If they did not sell gas do you think that they would be, for the most part, as successful?

Perspectives from Perspicuity:

QT is consistently cited by national publications as being one of the top companies to work for in the country.

Everyone buys gasoline, but gasoline does not provide much of a product margin.  QuikTrip pioneered the convenience grocery concept.  To answer your question Buzz, you might ask yourself if Food Pyramid or Reasor's would be successful if they didn't sell milk.  Milk, you might say, is a staple good!  So why is it always at the back of the store?  If someone comes in for only one gallon of milk, they typically walk out of a large grocery store with at least one other item.  The other items are conveniently located where you see them on your way to and from the milk isle.  The same can be said for QuikTrip- they provide products to people who want them now, even if they came looking for some staple good- gasoline.

Gasoline may be their core product, but it's probably also their least profitable product.  What gasoline does most for QuikTrip is create potential customers for the convenience goods.  They have created invaluable customer loyalty that yields everything from Facebook group fan clubs to the kind of brand insistence that causes some people to run out of gas passing 5 gas stations in search of a QuikTrip.

Love 'em or hate 'em, you have to admit, they're good at what they do.

I think the printable solar panels will be a better bet for home charging stations.

They were the 20th best company in 2007 to work for (according to Forbes) and they are 28th on the list for 2008.  They now have a full time DR on staff that employees can see for free.  Their thinking is that if someone can go to the DR for free it will stop them from getting any worse and therefor not call in to work.  They say it is working too.  Great idea IMO especially the rising cost of healthcare, etc.
