That's Locust Grove Park aka Locust Park. That link will take you to a forum thread with photos and reminiscences from people who grew up in the surrounding neighborhood.

can't say I grew up in the neighborhood, but I lived there until I was six.  I had to ask my Mother and an uncle if they remember the park and they said they used to take me there.  I lived between 14th and 15th on Elgin.  I remember it, but as a child that young you tend not to remember a lot of detail.

I do remember the train tracks deep in my back yard, though.

This is the site of Tulsa's next proposed Bark Park! Personaly I'd like to use the Locust Park name for the new park. Anyone have any better names? Mr Bates, what was the housing addition called (13th to 15th/Cincy to Peoria)?

Hometown

Most of the area in the boundaries you layout was called Tracy Park Addition.  Tracy Park Addition ran from Norfolk to Peoria between 11th and 15th.  The other day I saw a neighorhood from US75 north of Oaklawn Cemetery that looked like Tracy Park Addition used to look.  I think it is just north of the cemetery.  I've got to get out and find that area.  Gosh I miss Tracy Park addition.

Locust Grove Park was surrounded by small additions named after trees but I don't think those names stuck.  I'm curious if Locust Grove Park was finally considered part of River View?

If my memory serves me, I think Tracy Park Additon homes were actually generally more subtantial that Maple Ridge homes (other than the Maple Ridge Mansions).

Hometown

Found that area at lunch today.  Must have been Madison north of 6th.  But it's not like Tracy Park Addition.  False alarm.

Tracy Park edition homes are very similar to Morningside edition which is just south of 15th between Cincinnati and Peoria. Some modest homes dispersed among large two/three story mostly frame homes but nothing as substantial as the original Maple Ridge- 18th street-21st, Detroit to Peoria. Same era though.

Heck, as a paperboy I used to see the same large two story homes as Morningside/Tracy north of Admiral and Utica where 244 cuts through.

Hometown

Oh, I thought Morningside Addition was part of Maple Ridge.  And that is what I was referring to, Morningside Addition.  I remember Tracy Park Addition homes being generally a little larger that Morningside Addition.  Isn't Morningside Addition mostly bungalows?  My memory is a little blurry.

I like Locust Grove better. Locust park sounds good, though. I really wanted to go to the meeting last night, but I couldn't make it due to a prior engagement. Did anyone out there attend? What's the scoop? I made it over to Joes Station finally, good times. Are there any plans to plant some shade trees in that bark park? It could use some.

Yes.

Up with trees is going to plant many trees at Joe Station Bark Park. Unfortunately, you really can't plant trees in Oklahoma until fall.

Up with trees and the Park department are coming up with a tree plan and my wife is raising the money.

Its a little confusing. The original Maple Ridge Addition was only about 9 square blocks. Maple Ridge is now the umbrella term for all of the older homes in this general area south of 15th and east of the river to Peoria. It only came into generic usage in the late seventies. By the eighties it was useful to increase membership and strength in the homeowners association by including nearby neighborhoods and delineating them as North, Middle, and South Maple Ridge.

Tracy Park is between 11th and BA expressway. It morphed into Morningside which is between 15th and 18th. I wouldn't call Morningside primarily bungalows. They may look small but many are 1.5 to 2 stories and take up most of their lots. There are plenty of really big homes especially along Madison. My estimation of Morningside is that it most likely looked like the homes removed for the BA expwy.

Gunboat is west of Tracy. Riverview is west and north of Maple Ridge.

Swan Lake is also one that is now rather generic. I wish we had been able to keep each neighborhoods identity seperate like they do out south.

When my friend Fritz was in town we found his old address next to Emerson Elementary.  He said and you confirmed here earlier that his old neighborhood was all 2 story detached garage homes.  It's to the east of Brady Heights.  He said it had originally been an upper class neighborhood.  And he remembered it as an integrated neighborhood before his moved to Southeast Tulsa.  Now it has all been demolished.

I can't imagine anything more important to Tulsa History that preserving what's left of these old neighborhoods.  Even if we wanted to we could not rebuild these neighborhoods.  No one has the skill or the quality materials.  Preserving Gun Boat Park and Riverview and the neighborhoods on the NW side of downtown and other historic areas like White City and the housing around Whittier Square is so important to Tulsa.

I hate the Tulsa World for their tear it down and build something new point of view.  They've done a terrible disservice to Tulsa.

I was at the meeting, it went well and everyone there was in favor of this new location. Some of the folks there were very mad about the arboretum, (the parks department really messed that up by letting them install a water feature and then dropping the axe on off leash dogs).

I can't give Herb and his crew enough credit; he really gets things done.

Tulsa could have 10 total parks in fairly short order. If everything goes right the 13th Street park could be open by fall.

You are preaching to the choir. I hate that the IDL took out so many homes, parks, apartments and little neighborhood businesses that would be very attractive to people today.

If I ever win the lottery I'll spend my money putting appropriate houses back in Brady Heights and building "old school" apartments in parking lots downtown. I'm sure I wont have my lottery money very long.

Woo-hoo![:D] I have one more suggestion for these these parks and that's using vermicomposters to dispose of the dog waste in an environmentally conscious way. I don't think I'll be able to make it to the meeting to share it, hopefully someone might pass it along.
