Casa Bonita Grand Opening (Review)

Ok, I just got back from Casa Bonita.  I thought I'd share my experience in a few simple lines.

Food = Enchiladas were lame but tacos were good.
Price = Higher than before ($14 a head)
Staff = Obviously in need of training.

Summary. I would not go there again unless prices dropped in half.  I paid $16.00+ with my tip and I could have eaten at Speedy Gonzales across the street for about half that and still would have had enough food.  Nice people, nice environment with a lot of room for improvement.

I can only think of two places worth that much money...Teds and Los Cabos.  It'd have to be damn impressive to get that kinda money and from what you said, it wasn't.

Ok...seriously, what gives? Casa Bonita closes...opens again with slightly different name...closes again...reopens with original name, and prices double? They need to just let that place die. Does it still have the caves and arcade?

Everything looked the same to me when I was there last night.  I ate at Speedy's, my usual Buritto with a glass of water with lemon for $2.95,  but I did made a walk through Casa Bonita across the street because a friend called me and wanted to see if it was open and to check it out for them.

Food remained looking the same that was being brought by on trays.  Arcade seemed to have a couple of newer games, one was a motorcycle racing game.  The water fall and the caves were open.  

Most looked identical to how it has been for decades, which to me is great.  

Wish Crystals was still open, I always enjoyed watching the old tyme movies while eating their spaghetti.  I was told by the cashier that the price at Casa Bonita was $10.99 for the Chicken or Beef all you can stand.

They used to have coupons in the newspaper and other places good for like a few bucks off.  They may not of had time to get those out yet.  

Did not see any ink on them in the Urban Tulsa or the Tulsa World yet.  They appeared to be having mini-meetings and training several folks while I was walking through the restaurant.

Growing up in Colorado, Casa Bonita in Denver was THE place to go complete with cliff divers and soppillias, I always thought it was one of a kind so was really suprised to see that one existed or had existed in Tulsa. I believe the one in Denver is still open although I haven't been to it in 14-15 years. With it being a Colorado icon makes sense it was in an episode of "South Park"

Back in the early 70's CB was the number one (and maybe the only Mexican place to go) in OKC. The food was great. Of course that was before Big Brother took away our coconut oil they fried the chips and other goodies in. The cheese on the enchiladas were out of this world. The sopapillas were huge and the tacos were loaded with meat and cheese! Oh for the good ole days again.[]If memory serves me right I think back then it was $6 a person. I can still smell that wonder smell as you entered the door![}:)]

I can remember when the deluxe dinner was $1.89, all you can eat. Yeah, I'm old!

My wife's family invited me there last night, and I have no idea why anyone would want to eat there short of entertaining their kids. Aside from the kitsche of the whole place, there's nothing there worth going for. I guess that's why I haven't been there in 25 years.

Soft drink to wash down mediocre food = $1.99
Tax = $1.10
Tip = $2.00

Eating crappy food for $16.08 and getting up close and personal with your toilet after you get home...priceless.

As I said on another post, $10.99 for a plate full of sh!t, boggles the mind.

You can have outstanding barbeque just about anywhere in Tulsa for $10.99 and far better Mexican for about half or a little more than half.

Don't worry. They won't last very long with prices like that for sh!tty food!
