Good.

As far as I'm concerned the whole place could be a ghost town.

Good riddance to that place, hopefully the trend continues. Not only does it give my city a bad reputation. It gives Christians one too.

it's not hard to tell what teachings would be contained therein when they built the place to look specifically  like a golden city..........

I am an ORU well-wisher, in that I wish them no particular harm.  I think ORU can be good for Tulsa, more education is always good for a city.  BUT, they made the bed and now they have to sleep in it.

I hope they pull out of it and I hope the reforms open up the atmosphere and shed some transparency on the financial issues.  I am of the opinion that it has been a Roberts fiefdom and cash-cow for a good number of years and let the important things (education/students) slide.  I hope I'm wrong, but no matter what I hope they turn it around for the future.

Regardless what you think of the Roberts and their management style, the university and ministry have been good for Tulsa's economy.

I think it will prosper under the guidance of the Greens and others.  It'd be a terrible waste if it knucked under.

Perhaps they are going to make it into an Anheuser-Busch Distribution center?

Owe!  That's how rumors are started!

Moot point as far as I'm concerned.

The university gives the city a horrible reputation, and none of us have any idea how much of an economic impact that has had on Tulsa.

Where is your proof of this horrible reputation that this one college has given the entire city?

I can say I have definitely experienced this negative perception while traveling about the country.  Many people I have met have only known one thing about Tulsa-- home of ORU.  Evangelical Charismatic Christians have a negative perception in general, and ORU is a magnet for that religious group.  Unfortunately, there are several negative stereotypes associated with evangelicals, and that is bad for Tulsa.  In terms of marketing the city, it doesn't matter if the stereotypes are justified or right.  The fact that they exist is the cold hard fact.  Tulsa's strategy shouldn't be to dismantle ORU, as trashing someone's religion isn't exactly good PR either, but rather to sell the diversity of the city.  Many different religions are well represented in Tulsa: we have a Jewish museum, a couple of prominent synagogues and mosques, a Buddhist temple, a Catholic cathedral, and many protestant churches with famous architecture, including one that is a National Historic Landmark.  Tulsa is the crossroads of the Midwest, South, and Southwest, and should utilize its diversity.  ORU should not be the only recognizable characteristic of the city-- but it can fit into a diverse overall makeup.  Tulsa needs to brand itself better so that random individual aspects of the city don't master-brand it.

The interaction I get from people when I am out of town or back home on the East Coast.

Like I said, it's a moot point because there is no way possible I can prove this with financial data, but it's there.

You know it, I know it and everyone with an ounce of intelligence knows it.

Yeah, well everyone I talk to from out of town talks about that really tacky Golden Driller.  That's got to be keeping people from moving here and tourism dollars away.  I think it's high time we demolish it.

I don't have the financial figures to prove it but anyone with a brain knows it.

I think we need to just build another dozen of them all around town. One is kinda silly, but a bunch of them is an attraction.

By making an attempt to insult my intelligence to agree with your [:o)]OPINION[:o)] doesn't prove your point.  I have been here for 8 years and not everyone here that I have met knows where ORU is or what the abbreviation (ORU) means. Also, if your (theory) opinion where true then the city would already have a bad name for making itself the U.S. biggest race riot city "Greenwood 1921" .  I don't see that stopping people from coming here, do you?

If you have an opinion state it but don't feed us the lie that your opinion is a fact if you can't back it up.

what kind of people do you interact with? any rational person with an IQ above 75 would know what ORU is, where it is located and what it stands for.  I mean seriously, they have a pretty good athletic dept (mens basketball, baseball, and womens basketball).  The Mabee center? who doesn't know where that is, or what it looks like.  The praying hands? People fly in to Tulsa to go to the musuems and see the "praying hands".  Sounds like you need to surround yourself with more intelligent people.
