Fun fact: our esteemed (or whatever) VP, Dick Cheney, will be at the Crowne Plaze this PM for an event.  2nd street will be closed for his arrival and departure.  I was down in the tunnel system yesterday and there were some signs saying the tunnel will be closed today as well.  Now I know why.

(Don't know if it's a fundraiser or what.  Tulsa must be more conservative than I thought if he's coming here...is Cheney still a considered an asset to the GOP?)

So where is the 'free speech' zone?
Vote for the two party system!
-one one Friday and one on Saturday.

I thought he might be in town to do some bird hunting.

yeah they flew in 2 C-17's yesterday to unload his cadillac and also the secret service black SUV's.  Should be arriving around 4pm or so this afternoon.  I did notice two other "big planes" flying close by one another just a few minutes ago though.

I am guessing the low number of active members today is connected to this event.

It's not the Semgroup Tournament nor the fact that it's a wonderful day outside. His minions shrivel up in sunlight!

BFD indeed. Wonder if he is being accompanied by our Senator who yesterday turned his back on post 9-11 soldiers and other GI's for polital gain McCain.

I don't have time for "the dick", i will be busy working as a volunteer with Chef Philippe Garmy to plate the 8 course dinner for the Wine Experience and Auction tonight at Philbrook.

When Dick Cheney was in town in 2003 I almost got arrest by the Secret Service and then yelled at a McDonald's employee.

Long story short(er), someone was supposed to shut down the street and didn't... so a 20 something in a  Buick driving slowly and looking all around (couldn't find the 244 on ramp, was seeking signs, I was new to Downtown at the time) rolls by Cheney's parked motorcade.  Did I mentioned I was downtown to pick up a brick of ammunition from the downtown UPS store and had it in my trunk at the time?  I also had an Iowa driver's license but had initially said I lived in Tulsa (I did).

They were not amused.  Many men with ear pieces and black sunglasses ensued.  cannon_fodder spent significant time sitting on a curb cross legged with my key's and wallet in the possession of someone else.  I was officially banned from downtown until Chaney left Sunday evening "if I wanted to avoid trouble."  They did not over react and pull guns or anything, but definitely were not overly sympathetic to my cause.

So because of them I was late to McDonald's and missed out on my McGriddle time frame, then the drive through lady yelled at me for "not asking for ketchup when I ordered," which I did as indicated on the receipt.  I was not amused. So I suggested she was 40 years old and handing food out in paper bags for a reason.  She was not amused.

I think I started drinking by noon.

[edit]Spell checker wanted to change Cheney to Chaney, I didn't argue.  But I relented and now changed it to be correct[/edit]

That would be the correct response to said chain of events.  Bravo.

Tomorrow is the Republican State Convention -- first time in Tulsa in 20 years -- and there's always a fundraising gala the night before. Cheney is speaking at the $100-a-plate dinner, which is sold out. (He won't be at the convention tomorrow.)

I had forgotten about Cheney coming to town.  As I neared Arnies coming down Detroit toward 2nd, I thought there'd been a car wreck.  I turned right on 3rd, left on Elgin, deputy was blocking that intersection.  I was wondering if it was a bike race.  Soon as I looked around and saw the rest of the security detail all up and down 2nd, I finally remembered "the big event".

Definitely would not have been the right time to go walking into the pawn shop next to Arnies with an AR-15 slung over one's shoulder.

Do they not care about bad publicity?  Had this happened to me, and had I been a Cheney supporter (I am defintely anything but a Cheney supporter) I would have dropped my support and started actively supporting the other party.

Inhofe, a native Tulsan, is perhaps the most conservative Senator in the country.  That fact alone will make Tulsa seem like home for ol' Dick.  I just hope no one around T-Town agrees to go hunting with him...
