Kathy's New Office

If you lived in the largest mansion in Tulsa (like Kathy Taylor), wouldn't you want your office at work to reflect your status in life?  Last Saturday the TulsaWorld ran a story about criticism of Taylor's fat and fancy new office.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for big offices, in fact most Tulsans could use larger offices, better equipment and adequate staffing.

I'm just amused by this outcome after our self-appointed CEO left the impression she was so humble she'd be working out of a broom closet when she went after Jack Henderson for questioning the then proposed office layout.  She had probably seen plans that week and thought she would head her critics off at the pass.

He looks better in retrospect, she is predictable.

Here's a link to the TulsaWorld story if you missed it.

Oh, geez.

For the record, I think it's quite likely she has the nicest office in the current City Hall as well as have all the Mayors before her.

This is in another thread already. She is staying in space that is listed as available for lease, not considered part of the city footprint, and is using it because it is vacant and they don't have to build out new offices. Ya know, because Jack Henderson got mad at her for building out new offices. Plus, not having to build new offices means saving money.

So yes Kathy Taylor, don't cut corners, hometown wants you to SPEND!

Wrinkle

Say, anyone notice Wiliams Co leased 4 floors of the BOK building to an outside tenant this week?

Well here's to our opulent major. She is not what she advertised to be and just loves those "Special projects." She never seems to really address the baser needs of this great city.

If the mayor wasn't wealthy, but instead was a bootstrap candidate, you guys would be applauding her for saving money by occupying already-constructed offices instead of building new ones. That is, those of you who can get past the word "her" in that statement.

At least you haters are good for a laugh. [}:)]

But Joe you will accept we do have the right and entitlement to express our opinions?  Sure you do.[8D]

To Newfield Oil Company for their expansion in Tulsa.  This is one of the most encouraging stories for Tulsa's economic future that I have read since returning to Tulsa three years ago.

This the kind of meat and potatoes growth that might actually mean Tulsa won't become just another no count town.

Go Newfield.  Go Oil Industry.  Save our sorry b****.

Like I say I love big offices.

I'm just amused by this outcome because Taylor left the impression she was so humble she'd be working out of a broom closet.

And what was it she said to Henderson about wanting a gold plate on the door?

Looks like she made sure she got one.

I noticed that Wrinkle.  How to make money from selling a building to the city.

Step 1) Guarantee lease to the city on sale of your building

Step 2) Occupy space in said building to meet terms at below market rate

Step 3) Lease space in your own building at market rate.  = profit.

Glad we can subsidize some real estate for them as well as taking the building off of their hands.  Those oil and gas firms have been having a hard time of it lately.  In all honesty, the way the deal was set up they played it and essentially we are providing cheap space for Williams as they lease out the building they own.

The entire deal [still] stinks.

I could care less about the Mayors office.  The entire deal is costing the city millions, who cares what square footage she occupies in the glass goose.

What about

--the double standard
--the hypocrisy
--the attempt to destroy Henderson for questioning the office arrangement
--The World's patronizing editorial calling the council "kids"

People are consistent and we'll see all of this again from our leadership.  Probably happening right now.

Just remember, she won't have that grand office for very long. Next election she is out of there!

hoodlum

i hope she sticks around next election, she is the first mayor to show some passion and leadership since i moved here 5 years ago. With all this talk about offices, i have yet to see a layout of the office in question. If the office is a normal size mayors office with room for a conference table, bathroom etc. i don't see what the problem is?

I'm in agreement. I guess I don't understand the complete fuss everyone makes about our mayor for everything she does or doesn't do. Maybe because I'm a member of the "midtown elite"? [:P]

The problem is she went after Henderson when he questioned the office arrangement and mocked him by saying he wanted a gold plate on his office door.

Then she turned around and made sure she had a gold plate on her office door.

It's the hypocrisy, not the office.

I believe in Tulsa more than Tulsa does.  And I believe Tulsa's mayor should have a very grand office.  But our mayor shouldn't attempt to destroy a councilor when he questioned the office arrangement and made the point that the councilors' offices should reflect their importance as well.

Tulsa World has played a big role in this ugly picture.
