It's more complicated than that, unfortunately.  In some ways, that common sense we should be trusting is lying to us when it comes to needing food.  Our bodies still want to consume the energy that hunters and gatherers would need to operate on a day to day basis.  To support much more active lives than we lead now.  At the same time, we also want to store calories as fat to survive possible food shortages -- from crop failures, or overhunted animal stock, or whatever. But of course there's no such thing as a food shortage in modern Western society. We're hardwired to want to store energy for lean times that never come.

So there're real ways in which our common sense -- or our genetic heritage as foraging animals, in other words -- isn't helping us at all.  Which is why we have to find ways to turn those urges to our advantage.

I just went to Bueno, I was a bit on the hungry side.

I got a Chicken Quesadilla Platter, felt the need to also get 2 tacos with it, and a large sprite to drink.  The platter comes with rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole, chips, and salsa.

1 Chicken Quesadilla 761 calories 44g fat 1658mg sodium
2 Crispy beef tacos  400 calories 28g fat  756mg sodium
Small Refried Beans  203 calories 17g fat  953mg sodium
Small Mexican Rice   235 calories  6g fat  643mg sodium
Corn Tortilla chips  219 calories 11g fat   25mg sodium
Guacamole             55 calories  5g fat  128mg sodium
Sour Cream            57 calories  6g fat   19mg sodium
Salsa                 14 calories  0g fat  366mg sodium
Large Sprite         310 calories  0g fat  113mg sodium
-------------------------------------------------------
Grand Totals:
2254 calories
117g fat
4661mg sodium

Thats what I'm talkin bout!!

I'd say it is possible that through crumbs dropped, residue, ice in my drink, and stingy portions I MAY have kept calories down to around 2000, and fat around 100 grams.  That's not so bad is it?

I got a pain in my chest radiating into my left arm and jaw with an intense feeling of fear and dread just reading what you ate.

That post alone was worth the time spent creating this thread!

LOL :D

But honestly, if I hadn't gotten online and pulled up the nutrition facts off bueno's site, would you have thought the food, by merely stating what I ate, would have amounted to that much fat, calories, and sodium?  I would have thought it to be a pretty large feeding, but not 2000+ calories.

I went on a seven day diet...all I lost was a week.

Strangely enough, I am actually tracking my intake (mainly just for informational purposes) and you just saved me a lot of research since we seem to have similar tastes in combo meals (I didn't eat all that, but close)

cannon_fodder

No fast food in March for me.  I did no pop in January.  No alcohol in February (shortest month, but still impressive IMHO).  No fast food in March.

Just something to change it up a bit.  No meat, no TV (no TV and no beer make cannon_fodder something something), and several other things on the slate for sometime this year.

Hence the reason fast food is really pretty bad for you- seems quite harmless to look at but you'll pay the price later.
