Apparently we have absolutely no fall foliage in any part of Oklahoma according to weather.com. I've been around folks, and Tulsa has some spectacular foliage in the fall. The Ouachita Moutains in SE Oklahoma put on a monumental display as well. Can they be this ignorant?

DM

I have noticed they do that every year. NE Oklahoma does have some really nice fall foliage. It may not be as nice as parts of the NE states, but it is still very nice.

This is off Intellicast. Slightly more accurate.

Wow, according to the first map, SE SD has no fall foliage either. I even question the second map for what it shows in our area.[?]

SE Oklahoma has some great fall foliage but they forget them too. This makes me mad as well, I have seen this the past couple years.

SXSW

It should extend to about I-35 which would include NE Texas, and all of eastern Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska.  The I-35 corridors runs right through the Cross Timbers, the division between the eastern forests and Great Plains/Rocky Mountain plateau.  This is really obvious in OKC where the eastern parts of the metro like Midwest City and Shawnee have lots of trees whereas western parts like Yukon and El Reno are pretty barren.

Oklahoma according to the rest of the world ^

And apparently it starts right on the Arkansas border according to the Weather Channel.

For years, when my husband and I lived in Virginia, we made the annual pilgrimage out to the Shenandoah's, along with presumably everyone else that lived on the eastern coast--somewhere around 2-3 million.  We woke early, so we could be sure to arrive just in time to sit in traffic for most of the day, wiz through the mountains at about 5 miles an hour, while sucking in the exhaust fumes from the wall-to-wall cars.

One time, we even got to see a black bear.  Of course, he had been run over by an SUV, but that just made him easier to see.

I love nature.

Oklahoma's foliage, though similar in color, is just not the same without the car fumes, traffic, road kill, etc...., .

Funniest thing I read all day.  [}:)][}:)][}:)]

Cool Pic![8D] You're right about the perception though. The people that we know who've been there rave about it, but very few people around here know about all the neat things in Tulsa. But we'll educate them with pics that we bring back.[:P] Actually, SD doesn't have the greatest image either. More like a pic with piles of snow and tepees all around.

Speaking of South Dakota, I was in the Black Hills last week for the Glidden Tour. At most we were a week early. There were lots of yelow but very little red.

We provided the emergency road service (between taking pictures).

As far as Oklahoma is concerned, last year was a bummer but hopefully, this year will be better. In my mind, the best areas are anywhere east of highway 69. I will be beating the bushes for fall color.

Breathtaking photos. Alot of people have the same   stereotypical images of SD as well. The Black Hills are beautiful. I've never been there but have seen pics and heard people remark about their beauty.

I'd like to come up from Dallas to see what autumn looks like. Can you help me predict the best weekend to come?
