The Urban Tulsa Weekly has a new political cartoonist -- none other than mildly disgraced former Tulsa World cartoonist Dave Simpson.

This is a stroke of genius, for two reasons:

1.  No one really holds an "alternative" weekly to mythical "journalistic standards."  In fact, this kind of rebellious act might actually give that little ad rag a whiff of credibility.

2.  Simpson is much, MUCH better that the World's new cartoonist, Doug Marlette -- due largely to the fact that the World apparently has about 1/12 of the guy's time.  It seems like you can count Marlette's cartoons on local issues on one hand, and they're not particularly insightful when they do run.  Earlier this week, the World ran a three-month-old rerun of a Anna-Nichole-Smith-at-the-Supreme-Court cartoon, which was the same as every other national cartoonists' rather obvious take on it.  (It might not be plagiarism, but it's not exactly original either.)
