It has been about a year and a half since I posted the note "Tulsa Livable? Only If Dead?" When I posted that note, I was depressed about finding myself in what I viewed as the worst place I had ever been.

In the space of 10 months, I bought and sold an expensive house (for Tulsa that is, between Utica Square and Woodward Park) and moved twice between states. It was a bad experience but my wife and I survived. Now, everyone has regained their footing after being in Houston for about a year. I am still surprised by the effect that surroundings and the people in those surroundings have on one's psyche.

I may have grown up in Tulsa but I found after living in Houston, Scottsdale, London and NYC, I could not live there again – truly, it is impossible to go home again.

I had not visited this site for many months but the other day I wanted to look something that I thought might be here. I guess I should not have been surprised that the same items were being discussed – a crummy amusement park (Bells), why there is no wine in grocery stores, a whacko talk show host, ... and the list goes on. Tulsa is truly the land that time forgot.

Before this note is completely trashed by the likes of Swake and Neptune, those of you that plan to live in Tulsa for the long haul should take a hard think about how your city appears to outsiders – because I can tell you that I was appalled. I came to Tulsa with the idea that I was going to stay and 3 months later I could not wait to leave. The resistance to change, the overbearing nature of the religious right / hard right conservatives plus a zillion irritations make the city an unfun place to be.

The wholesale departure of jobs and the people associated with them show that I am not alone in my views. I will not be posting again.
