Has anyone else seen the badly damaged stainless steel panels on the new pride and joy of downtown? they damages have been there since before the opening, and are highly visible from Denver ave. Look along the very bottom of the building, they look like heavy equipment was driven to close to the metal and rode up onto the side of the BOK....IT sure looks pretty tacky to not be repaired after more than 5 months

The panels are already, and will continue to be forever, a maintenance and aesthetic nightmare.

Oh, but of course. Tulsa can't have such things.  Only other cities can. For everyone knows that if its in Tulsa, we will just ruin it, bungle it, be incapable of maintaining it, etc. We are after all just a bunch of whiny hicks. Pearls to swine, ay? These kinds of things are best left to more civilized places that can take care of and truly appreciate such things.

Right?

Those who think it is a luxury have only a fragment of a mind. Mans spirit grows hungry for art in the same way h

I have no desire to learn to appreciate dented panels. Other cities can appreciate and maintain their panels in a dented state if they want.

5 months should be long enough to obtain new panels and replace them. I hope they are available in less than mill run quantities. If they are easily dented, we should order spares.  I hope there are common sizes and not all custom by location on the building.

How long do we have to keep the panels in their dented state to be considered a civilized place that can take care of and truly appreciate dented panels?

CoffeeBean

Each dent has a story, and that story is history, and that histroy must be preserved with HP overlay so we don't lose our past at the expense of a polished look.

Pebbles

The panels were formed by an Oklahoma company.  They will be able to make spares as needed.  If the panels are not compromising weather integrity it would be prudent to wait until spring to replace them.  I am sure that whoever damaged them their insurance will pay.

Unless it was city workers.

Then the insurance purchased by an event which is required to list the city as a named co-insured will have to pay.

Why does that not surprise me?

By the way, its not just dented panels that is a problem.  What looks like dirt from afar is not.  The panels are oxidizing or something. I tried rubbing the "dirt" off with my wet thumb (a very scientific test, I know...) and that stuff isn't going to come off easily, if at all.

Noodlez

I seem to recall one of the local new stations running a story on this just before it was to open and saying the dents would be fixed before opening.

Red Arrow

OK, "we" bought into a look that takes more maintenance that rock or brick. "We" will just have to do it.

All of this fuss sounds as though it can be handled with a small percentage of the profit being made by the Arena....

Hoss

It really cracks me up to watch the Tulsa-World-Comment-Section like replies to this thread.

The arena sofar is a grand success.  Those people that voted against it (or agin' it, if that's your preference) hate that fact, so they'll drudge this out as their counter-point.

Wow.

Congrats to Pebbles to providing the correct response.

I wish I had taken a picture but there was a note inside the BOK Center prior to opening that something along the lines "THESE PANELS WEREN'T DENTED WHEN WE INSTALLED THEM" and an advisement to quit driving vehicles into the building.

And the construction dirt (oil, adhesive, steel shavings, dirt, etc) that runs down the building will diminish over time bet will require cleaning about twice a year.

cannon_fodder

I hope they do have a maintenance plan that entails cleaning the building at least one time per year.  Just like a glass tower, the surface will have to be cleaned with more than a spray down. And I would like to see dented panels fixed.

But overall, I'm satisfied.
