City Recommends Private Police?

"Imagine having your own Private Police Force that has a response time averaging close to 60-90 seconds for any Priority call instead of anywhere from 8-23 minutes."

A patrol company sent this Email to our neighborhood group, stating the City of Tulsa provided our addresses.

They included the standard scare tactics like number of registered sex offenders in the area and  people associated with gangs.

This might lead one to believe that management has given up on meaningful police response times.  Though I often hear that the answer to that is to hire more police, I still see a small number of police rushing from call-to-call while others sit on their couches at home while their patrol car sits running in their driveway all day.

Anyway, it's interesting that some parts of our administration are helping farm Email addresses for private enterprises.

When seconds count the cops are just minutes away.

HA, Look up what Palmers main job is and look for his possible connections to that security offer. Then ask if he might be getting a referral fee[B)]

i'll keep the thugs we've got.  every once in a while they do something cool like arrest biker fox.  I think biker fox would rather have them too.  THe private mercs would leave him a smear on the road.

I agree. I think the law enforcement sector needs to be accountable to the citizens in general, not a group of private stock holders.

Questions:

Can you post the actual content of the email?

What is the name of the company?

You say the city provided your email address (which they don't have) or they provided your street address (which everybody has)?

Private police (no such thing) don't have arrest powers in the state of Oklahoma outside of any other citizen.  So do you realize you would simply be hiring security guards?

How many times have you called to complain (being specific) when you see an on-duty officer setting at home (not on his/her lunch break)?

TURobY

I'm going to go out on a limb, and guess that the city did not give them your information. Instead, it is being used to make them sound more "official" and "reputable".

Be sure to have the police vehicle number not the license plate.

is that what they are doing when they say they are going home for equipment?

how can you determine he is on duty?

He could be on an extended lunchbreak where he just leaves the engine running... It's just that this lunch break has been going on at least nine years that I am aware of.

I think TPD has a "system" where some uniformed cops do all the work and others just enjoy privileges.  Dont imagine they discuss it much on public forums, though.

As for the city giving out Email addresses to private businesses; that would have had to have been a lucky guess if this business just stumbled upon the addresses of neighborhood association members.

Given enough time, I'm sure that I could get them as well.
