NO LIMIT.

Rather an unequal contest when the Vote Yes organization can raise and spend over $1,000,000 to sell Vision 2025.

Contributions coincidentally came from the very entities that benefit from the spending, like Manhattan, Flint and AEP.

The Vote No organization raised and spent a mere pittance by comparison.

Ain't democracy great in the Banana Republic of Tulsa?

It sounds like you would be better served to spend your time campaigning for limiting campaign donation limits on non-partisan elections, if that's a cause you truly believe in. But whining about a five-year-old vote serves nobody's interests.

You had your chance to make you opinions known. You failed in the democratic process, and so now you have two choices. Move out of the county or deal with it. Your whining serves no purpose any longer, as the vote has already been presented, passed, and built. You are a few years too late...

Democratic Process?

Interesting concept.  I don't think it functions very well in a Banana Republic.

Since there are no campaign donation LIMITS on non-partisan elections, like sales tax and bond tax elections, the Vote YES Tax Vampires can spend any amount of money to push through a new or renewed tax.

NO LIMIT.

NONE.

Rather an unequal contest, when the Vote Yes organization can raise and spend over $1,000,000 to sell Vision 2025, wouldn't you say?

Contributions coincidentally came from the very entities that benefit from the increased tax spending, like Manhattan, Flint, BOK, F&M Bank, (Lortons), AEP and ONG.

Remember?

The Vote No organization raised and spent a mere pittance by comparison.

Ain't democracy just great in the Banana Republic of Tulsa?

Guess what that means?  That means that the Vote Yes campaign for V2025 was better organized and better funded.  The Vote No camp wasn't.

The vote was in Nov 2003...let it go man!  Let it go!!

Now that would be simply futile.

The local ruling power Oligarchy like things JUST THE WAY THEY ARE.

They won't stand by and let their power to build on their Third Fortunes be limited.

Imagine what a great swindle they have going now:

$2 million in city Lodging Tax gets funneled to the MetroTulsaChamberPots.  In lieu of contributions from the members.

The MetroTulsaChamberPots in turn is their mouthpiece for promoting new taxes and renewal of existing sales and property taxes.

When the new or renewed taxes get passed, with the help of UNLIMITED campaign contributions from Manhattan, Flint, AEP, ONG, BOK, F&M, Cox Cable, MATRIX, World Publishing Co., etc. then those tax dollars are re-cycled back to these self-same entities that promoted the taxes to begin with.

Through NO BID and Sole-Sourced juicy contracts.

Ain't democracy great in the Banana Republic of Tulsa?

FB,

The same constituency which voted FOR V-2025 shot down the river plan which allegedly had a $1mm ad budget vs, I believe, $15K or so for the no side.

You are sounding neurotic again.  When were you thinking about having the softball throw?  I think you've been beaned one too many times as it is.

Guess what that means?  That means we need former President Jimmy Carter to supervise our local elections, like he does for Third World Countries, i.e. Banana Republics.

Curiously, there are spending limits, albeit high limits of $5,000, for state and local candidates.

NO LIMITS at all what the local ruling power establishment can raise and spend to put more and more taxes on the poor and middle class.

WHY do they love Sales Taxes?

Because the burden of this most REGRESSIVE tax is shifted to the poor and middle class.

But, they really do NOT like Real Estate taxes?

Why?

Because they own a LOT of Real Estate.  Lots and lots.

You would think the always vote no crowd would be able to raise money. But I guess every time they ask someone, the answer is always no.

The difference in the two elections was active POLITICAL leadership.

For Vision 2025, the local ruling power establishment had EVERY elected leader lined up supporting the new Sales Tax.  ALL.

It's ALL ABOUT JOBS, remember?

In the failed 2007 Kaiser River Tax, although extremely under-funded, the No River Tax opposition had some current political leadership speaking out against the new tax:

City Councilors Henderson, Turner, and Eagleton, B.A. Mayor McCaleb, and former Owasso Mayor and current State Senator Brogdin.

Remember?

Actually, as a voter I put that tax in place. And guess what... I'm middle class.

I actually prefer sales taxes because I can adjust my spending habits if I see fit. Plus, it allows us to capture taxes from out-of-town visitors. Property taxes aren't quite as easy because it only encourages people to rent and does not allow us to gain revenue from out-of-towners.

Someday, maybe some altruistic, anti-tax financial Angel may start funding Vote NO campaigns.

Several potential patrons come to mind.....

On the other hand, under the current rigged system, when Manhattan can donate $50K to promote Vision 2025, and then share in a $200 million construction project 50/50 with Flint, wouldn't you say that's quite a handsome return on their investment?

You would sure think that someone would fund a Always NO campaign. But I wonder, why not?

There has got to be a deep conspiracy somewhere against all the Always NO, right friendly bear?

Can you explain?

My guess is that people are a good judge of character and know better than to hang out with bears.
Power is nothing till you use it.

Someone tried to start a project to stop all of these "gather people's money and spend it on a project" elections but then he realized he would have to "gather people's money and spend it on a project dedicated to stopping people from gathering money and spending it on projects."

At this point his head exploded and no-one has tried it since.

January 1, 2017.

Red Letter Day.

Expect by then a new Sales Tax initiative to "re-model" the "outdated" BOK Arena.

OKC is spending $100 million to remodel a five year old $90 million arena.

For the Basketball team.

OKC is spending $100M to upgrade facilities that were lacking when it was built. Tulsa put them in the first time. They are spending a big chunk of money on... get this.. a big glass wall over the entrance.

sgrizzle,

You would be dead wrong.  They are expanding the southeast entrance and a new southwest grand entrance to the arena, NBA-specific amenities including a locker room for the team (the Blazers will keep their own locker room), several more suites, new flooring in the concourses (I personally thought the terazzo flooring there today is a joke), a roof garden, new retail and concessions, minor extensions to the north side vestibules, concourse expansions, Fun Zone on the upper concourse, team offices above the Mezzanine, new press suites, exterior makeover and a new scoreboard.

I hardly call that a large chunk of money on a glass wall.

That's alright; it was a hole when it opened..it will remain a hole when it's upgraded.  It's like polishing a bronze turd.  In the end, it's still a turd.

Sucks that Tulsa was so jealous of that turd that they taxed themselves into building one with brown skid marks [}:)]
