Disc Jockeys joke about shootings

I could not believe my ears when I heard the two Djs on KFAQ around 8:30.

The two, Pat Campbell and his sidekick (sorry that I don't recognize the voice) are joking about the guy who walks into the Tennessee church on Sunday and starts shooting.

They made jokes about the church saying something like "the Unitarian Church is the only church in Tennessee where he knew nobody would be packing"...

Their premise for the conversation was them trying to get someone to blame "talk radio" for the incident because the shooter went after liberals. It was a back-door compliment hoping to bait a listener into saying that what they do inspires people, even crazy mad men.

I think they owe an apology to the community for the whole conversation. What happened was a tragedy...if Americans are not safe in their place of worship...then we are truly lost.

One man died and five others are in serious or critical condition. It is not a joking matter. Your laughter about it was offensive.

I think they want to be "shock jocks" and get attention.  Clearly these same people would claim to be horrified if someone made light of the shootings of the two girls in Oklahoma by joking about it on the radio in Tennessee.  Even if they don't mean it, they are just doing it for attention.

So deprive them of that.  Don't listen and feel free to share that with management.  The problem will then solve itself.

I've got to say, this is pretty bad, if true.  Could you imagine being a relative of the dead and hearing this nonsense?  They shouldn't be censored . . . but just vote with your wallet and don't support their advertisers.  I quit going to Ziegler's for advertising on KFAQ and quit watching KOTV for letting MDG advertise on their station.  This crap has to stop.

I've successfully avoided listening to the radio for about the last month by being on vacation for 10 days and riding my motorcycle just about everywhere I go since about the third week of June.  I have not missed it.

KFAQ has gone a long way in making conservatism look bad in this town.

You know my non-history with these people so I am certainly not going to knee-jerk defend them. Were they laughing or were they 'just saying?' There is nothing amusing about what happened but point of fact is that shooter believed the 'libruls' would be unarmed pacifists and goes toward his mindset.   Actually, when I saw the sign on the church I did think of you.  Pretty scary.

I listened again to the podcast. It is on the third hour of the show at the twenty minute mark. The co-host makes the bad joke...

Pat Campbell lets out a big belly laugh and says of the Unitarian Church, "pretty much guaranteed an audience of sitting ducks".

I'm sorry. I think it was very bad taste to make fun of a congregation going through a tragedy. I guess because it wasn't his church is is OK.
