IMHO it's neligence displayed against the baby AND the dogs.  I believe I heard they put down the pug as well this morning.  Who knows what seventeen yr old parents understand about the care and feeding of babies.

Another example of why we should have spay/neuter laws for people too. The puppy had evidently not been fed in several days and smelled what it considered "food" in the baby's dirty diaper. It was hungry not vicious!!! Neglect charges, both animal and child, should be brought against the baby's "parent".

NOt too long ago I baby sat a friends 2 month old baby - and she has a great set of lungs. When she cried I had no problem hearing her - even in an other room.

3 adults were in the house and no one heard the baby cry when the puppy bit him. At the very least there should be some kind of negligence and they think the baby was left alone unchecked for at least an hour. A 2 moth old baby seems to need something every 15 minutes.

They should have drug tested the parents. There is much more going on here. And if there isn't then the girl really needs to get on birth control before she has another baby. This girl is not ready to be a mother and the grandmother is obviously not all that either.

Why so much compassion for the puppy?  Sheesh.

I hate to sound like a hard-donkey, but who goes out and gets a puppy when they've got a newborn child?  They require almost as much attention as a newborn.

A lot of people get a puppy when they have a baby. But most people have enough sense to not leave the puppy alone with the baby.

But then, most people don't leave a practically new born infant alone for over an hour without checking on it.

Not a bad puppy - it was doing what puppies do unless they are trained not to.

This was bad parents who didn't feel the need to take care of their baby.

This story stinks to high Heaven.

I hope the TPD doesn't just write this off as being caused by the dog. I have a feeling there is something much more to this. I'm assuming an autopsy will be done to determine cause of death. I wouldn't be surprised to find out the child died of some other cause. Like being left in the backyard in the swing where it died of heat exposure.

And why the hell was a child this young in a swing? No way it had the strength to hold its head up, yet they put it in a swing?

WHY the hurry to euthanize the dog?

The dog is the principal "suspect".

Wouldn't TPD want to verify that the dog bites actually came from that dog's teeth?

From KOTV news, dad and granfather left at 8:00 am, mother and grand mother were at opposite ends of the house from the child, child left unnattended for at least an hour and a half. 2 months old left unattended for an hour and a half???????
A minute and a half is too long to leave any young child unattended.

Def. A case of bad parenting and being to immature to have a child....

Leave the child alone for the amount of time...bad move. But think of this too....leave a 2 month old puppy alone in a house (""in a nice neighborhood"" too???? Come on!Plueeeezzzze!
The pup could have mouthed the kid to death .....BUT NOT W/OUT A NORMAL HUMAN HEARING IT!!!
Unless they were comatose and/or NEGLIGENT!
A 2 month old pup of any breed (this is not a breed matter)has super sharp teeth + babies have super soft skin....pup was a Lab (smart, curious; we hope) kid was in a spring wind up chair swing maybee going back and forth in motion = a game of fetch to canine pup + possible blood atraction, wiggles, noises + worthless (imo!) humanoids in the residence (not just because of their appearance) = the tragedy we are all commenting on.
Was the pup covered in blood? Did the bite marks match up? Did they drug test the humanoids present? (I hate drug testing; but not in this case)This is a good case to test our D.A.'s office. I think something is fishy if there is not a HUGE case in regard to this matter.

It was earlier reported that police ordered the puppy put down, but now KOTV quoted Jean Letcher with the Animal Welfare Shelter as saying they made the decision immediately because city "requires any animal that bites a person to be euthanized."
The ordinance doesnt require that, however, just suggests that as an option.  Only a period of quarantine is required.

"In the case of a bite inflicted by a nonimmunized animal upon the head, face, neck or upper extremities, resulting in deep lacerations or multiple wounds, the Director may require immediate euthanasia of the animal in order to perform tests for diagnosis of rabies.

Werent these the same people misquoting state law when they put down some dogs last month that people were trying to adopt?

The grave issue here is that a child has been denied its right to grow up; and more so for the circumstances as implied by the parents' testimony.  In regards to the puppy, that is sad as well but the death of an infant due to possible neglect by parents is a much larger shame.

Does anyone else think this whole story is weird?  How does a 6 week old labrador puppy kill a baby?  It seems almost unfathomable especially with NO sound?????  This just doesn't add up.

it was the pug and the cats.
they set-up the "black" dog to take the fall.

ever seen "homeward bound"? that duo can do all sortsa ****.

maybe they will do a post mortem on the dog and look for confirmation... just a thought.
