And, keep AEP VERRRRRRRRY, VERRRRRRY happy....purring like Mayor Kitty's kitty.

Keeps me happy too. I'd rather it be lit up  and visible, than be dark and unseen. After all, the voters should get to see what they voted for, right?

Of course, some are still stuck almost half-a-decade back in time.

Those thoughts exactly wash over me whenever I drive by.

Well, actually I think about my tax dollars - AT WASTE.

And, the fleeting thought that in just 8 1/2 more years, the temporary Vision 2025 Sales Tax will finally have the Arena paid for:

January 1, 2017.

Red Letter Day.

Expect by then a new Sales Tax initiative to "re-model" the "outdated" BOK Arena.

OKC is spending $100 million to remodel a five year old $90 million arena.

For the Basketball team.

Boy, sucks to be you. I like the new arena and dont at all mind paying for it.

Yaaaaay ME! lol [:D]

As for donating more... I donate a looot of my time, aka money, and heck on occasion a good sum of money to get things done for the city and its citizens. And hope to earn more so I can donate even more time and money.

The "things" I want in life just dont exist within the 4 walls of my house. The whole city is my home, and I like nice stuff. [8D] Matter of fact, I wish we would all spend less money, and time, in our houses, and spend more time and money in our shared home and community.

OKC is spending $100M to upgrade facilities that were lacking when it was built. Tulsa put them in the first time. They are spending a big chunk of money on... get this.. a big glass wall over the entrance.

sgrizzle,

You would be dead wrong.  They are expanding the southeast entrance and a new southwest grand entrance to the arena, NBA-specific amenities including a locker room for the team (the Blazers will keep their own locker room), several more suites, new flooring in the concourses (I personally thought the terazzo flooring there today is a joke), a roof garden, new retail and concessions, minor extensions to the north side vestibules, concourse expansions, Fun Zone on the upper concourse, team offices above the Mezzanine, new press suites, exterior makeover and a new scoreboard.

I hardly call that a large chunk of money on a glass wall.

That's alright; it was a hole when it opened..it will remain a hole when it's upgraded.  It's like polishing a bronze turd.  In the end, it's still a turd.

[:D]

Sucks that Tulsa was so jealous of that turd that they taxed themselves into building one with brown skid marks [}:)]

You get 0 for originality, but an 8 for effort.

Now, go sit at home and do nothing.  Stop enjoying life.  Because that's what most of you whiners about the arena (which by the way was voted on 5 years ago) probably do.

I'm going to enjoy it.

You seem to have some strange obsession with turds.  Please don't tell me you're one of those people who check their stool for fiber intake?  j/k

Our arena was mediocre when built, and for certain reasons that were justifiable.  We all knew a remodel was upcoming, and wanted one anyway.  At least our arena was debt free, paid for in cash, and will be after the remodel is done.  It will be much nicer.

You can think our arena is crap, I'm fine with that.  At least we don't have an arena that resembles a roll of duct tape, or better yet, a coffee cup lid.  Hey, at least the illuminated glass wall is cool.

Oh well, enjoy paying the interest on your new dig.

There has got to be a deep conspiracy somewhere against all the Always NO, right friendly bear?

Can you explain?

My guess is that people are a good judge of character and know better than to hang out with bears.

The answer can be found in simple, financial gain.

The Promoters of a new tax initiative (the REAL promoters meaning the Construction industry, downtown banks, and associated favored cronies in the legal, accounting, and engineering fields) stand to GAIN millions by "investing" INDIVIDUALLY $25K - $50K.

That is a mere pittance from what they expect to gain in return.

Look at Manhattan and BOK, for instance in Vision 2025.

Each one gave $50K or less.  Manhattan ends up splitting $200 MILLION in new government spending on an Arena, and BOK was given one-half of a sole-sourced bond underwriting for the entire amount, and is also appointed bond trustee.

What money BOK made off of the Vision 2025 has never been revealed, but it is at least MILLIONS.

On the other hand, Mr. Average Tulsa County Taxpayer was looking at paying probably another $150.00 per year in increased sales taxes due to Vision 2025.  So, relatively, the pain was spread across 100,000's of Tulsa County residents.

On a financial basis, there is insufficient return for an average tax payer to FINANCIALLY support any Vote NO effort that is only going to cost him an additional $120.00 per year.

Now, it is true that pain will continue for 13 years from January 1, 2004 until January 1, 2017.

So, of course the promoters have a VERY STRONG direct financial incentive to push for a new tax and new spending. They will collectively GAIN $100,000,000's for a very modest EXPENSE amounting to only thousands of dollars.

A very lucrative return on their investment, wouldn't you say??

Simple really.

Ain't democracy beautiful in the Banana Republic of Tulsa?

Well, if they did a serious push for "Always vote no", some crafty officials could draft up a "Proposal to not spend $2 billion on streets and/or giant guilded llama at 29th & Columbia Pl." to which when FB votes no, he is authorizing the tax grab :D

FB "What money BOK made off of the Vision 2025 has never been revealed, but it is at least MILLIONS"

Kaiser has donated millions more to the city and charities.  Plus hey, if BOK is doing so well, buy shares.

I hope to make money off Vision 2025 as well. The more attractive the Tulsa area is as a place to live, the more people "aka clients" I will have. Expanding our colleges, expands wealth, "aka wealthier clients".  On top of that I now have some nice toys "aka the Arena, TASM, Jazz Hall of Fame, etc." to enjoy.

I like it...especially the giant guilded llama.

I think friendly bear is just against everything. I don't mind spending an extra ten bucks a month for a better community. Vision 2025 got us a new arena, new housing and roads downtown, new city halls and recreation centers for all the suburbs...all quality of life additions.

Ten bucks a month for a better place to live. I am for it.

Well, you can probably afford the TICKETS for sale at the BOK Center events, too.

Many, many poor and struggling middle-class Tulsa families are POORER because of the Vision 2025 tax.

The additional 6/10 sales tax just adds more burden to a household budget stricken with higher prices for EVERYTHING:  Groceries, gasoline, electricity, natural gas, insurance, college tuition, etc.

And, Tulsa's pressured poor and middle-class taxpayers cannot afford a $187 ticket to see The Eagles, preferring instead to continue buying food, fuel, clothes, or electricity on their over-stretched household budgets.

Enjoy the Eagles, nonetheless.

Like many bank stocks, Bank of Kaiser (BOK) bank stock price is now trading below their 52-week average.

Might be a BUY signal, all right.

Or, maybe a harbinger of further price declines.....

As to Kaiser Family philanthropy:

I do NOT really buy into "Conditional Philanthropy".

If it's a gift, make it a gift.

If it's not, make everything associated with the transaction Transparent and Arms-Length.

Please, not just another favor in return for some sole-sourced, sleazy insider deal in the Banana Republic of Tulsa.

You do know that most families that fall in that category can apply for *gads* A SALES TAX REBATE.

You do know that, right?

Something you and I agree on.  I feel that exploiting the poor over a political debate is in bad taste.

Sometimes the only thing I believe will satisfy these people is to shut down the free enterprise system, end every capitol improvements program and resort to North Korean socialism.

Somehow I doubt you'd be happy if the tickets were free.

Anyway, on topic: Other than basketball games, the Ford Center has 10 events planned during the same time period as the list above.

You need to count again.  Not that the comparison is at all meaningful anyway.  We know they have made a big push for events in this opening season and we will not likely have that many in similar periods in the future.

Why not count the free concert tonight for BOK employee's?

Since the topic is long forgotten, I have created a new thread over here:

Please keep your complaints and comparisons on this thread and don't gum up the new one.

I underestimated the Vision 2025 sales tax impact on local taxpayers.

It's more than $120.00 average per year.

More like at least $150.00 per year.

Reason?

The Tulsa County Sales tax now applies to Electricity and Natural Gas bills, thanks to our consumer-friendly State Legislature action a few years ago.

So, Tulsa County is raking off 4-to-Fix-the-County and Vision 2025 every month on the PSO and ONG bills.

So, as Electricity and Natural prices shoot up and up, our County Sales tax amount each month likewise increases......

Swell swindle.

The $18.00 per family Vision 2025 Sales Tax rebate is a paltry refund for those that even qualify.  Especially for poor people who spend more of their disposable income on necessities like food, gasoline, and energy.

The Rooney and Flint spawns are VERY happy, however.
