OurTulsa     Posted - 07/23/2008 : 11:54:17 Unfortunately I don't see a sports franchise establishing in Tulsa and filling the BOK. What I can see is a steady series of tournaments.

I hope Tulsa can establish some good annual basketball tournaments between the BIG XII, Conf. USA, and Horizon leagues tournies, NCAA's, and holiday tournies featuring good regional match-ups...Would love to see something that brough KU vs. LSU, Arkansas vs. OSU/OU, Memphis vs. OU/OSU, Illinois vs. Texas, Iowa vs. T-Tech.

Something annual like that would draw good crowds from outside Tulsa, however only for a long weekend, but still something good.

However, in the long run, I'm with Joe on the idea of promoting a serious music and artistic culture...We've got tons of assets already in place working to make that happen and I see a bright future. Will that fill the arena? The occasional concert, I guess. I'll support that culture this weekend at D-Fest...great music happening there! Joe, you gonna sell pizza outside your joint?

I will be at Dfest, but only to enjoy the coolest thing that happens in our town and to catch some great music...not to sell pizza. Next year, we'll be selling pizza inside our restaurant and hopefully having some great bands play on our stage.

I think Tulsa has the potential to be spoken of in the same breath as Austin, Memphis, New Orleans, etc as a music oriented city. We've got an amazing history, unique and respected venues, and a long list of musicians who have called Tulsa home.

My special dream would be for Leon Russel's church studio to reopen in  the Pearl District.
Between that, the Cain's, and the Brady, and the Jazz hall of fame, we'd have some truly unique and historical music related places. The BOK and Drillers and Dfest (as well as other festivals) all will be able to blend with the history.

It's really something I can get excited about and that I believe has a real possibility of happening.

Joe, you sure do have an invested interest in the success of downtown, eh?
