Not only is Oklahoma known as backwards now we can add disgusting to the list.

You ever hear of "cognitive dissonance"?  It's the name for the psychological symptom where the mind, preferring information that matches its prior viewpoint, takes any new information and either twists it to suit that viewpoint or dismisses it altogether.  Aggressive cognitive dissonance is usually a sign of a weak or insecure mind.  It's the same thing members of a cult do.

In this case, you have a (mistaken) idea that Oklahoma is a place to be looked down on.  Every bit of information you can find, you try to twist to fit this notion.  So you find an article about a leading supplier of osteological specimens based in Oklahoma, and you present it as yet another piece of evidence of how our state is backwards and disgusting.

It's your spin that's lame, not our state.  If you want to keep posting articles, stop viewing them through your mud-colored glasses.

Sorry, Aunt Ax, nice try.  If you look at my profile you'll see I've been around for over two years.  Mostly I've just lurked and read the board for news scoops, like when Rufnex sprung the East End news on us.

But lately I've noticed a certain negativity on the forums, and I'm sick of it.  It's not informed skepticism, it's self-loathing by certain members of the community who seem hell-bent on convincing everyone else about how bad it is here.  So I'm not letting it go anymore.  If you make wild, Davas-style assertions about how Tulsa is an unsophisticated, disgusting place that the rest of the country looks down on and is not worth living in, I'm calling you out.  It's not this city, it's you.

You seem like a reactionary, Floyd. I do not care how long you've been here.

Many of my posts indicate my overall desire to live here and continue to make a difference here.

Often I will object to the "follow what other cities do" (especially Hicktown) or "if you build it they will come" mentality. There is a suspicious amount of narcistic skeemers and wild eyed dreamers and their comments deserve pouncing on.

I can be sarcastic and I can be "right on target, more direct" in your face. I will single out hatred and bigotry and root for the poor and oppressed and if that means the concoctions you are spewing so be it. Tulsa has a heritage of hate and we all best try to overcome that reputation first. I had another encounter with a prostilitizer just last week while minding my own business.

Too bad some posties feel my honesty infringes on their egos and they take it all personally.

Sounds like we're on the same page.  I'm no reactionary, except to react sarcastically to mean-spirited naysaying.  I've found that oftentimes playground bullies have to have their shortcomings pointed out, and they'll go away.  You suggest in another thread that unexplained drug deaths mean our agencies are unsophisticated and that we're somehow non-"big city."  This thread was started by somebody saying that Oklahoma City's niche skull-cleaning business suggests that their job market is not only looked down on, but disgusting to boot.  So yeah, I'm reacting to that stupidity.  Just consider me an optimistic ombudsman who will do his best to contradict those who trash my city or my state.

That is actually pretty cool. Not sure why it makes Oklahoma disgusting, or what it has to do with the OKC job market.

I'm with Floyd (by the way, I loved you in those Andy Griffith episodes).

The forum has taken a mean spirit lately. We need somebody to challenge attacks on our home.

Not every weird thing is negative.
Power is nothing till you use it.

I agree with Floyd. Many of the negative perceptions about Tulsa and Oklahoma are just plain false.
