Tulsa World Censorship

Why does the Tulsa World even bother with a comments section on their web site? Every time somebody posts something there that they don't agree with they disable the comments. Just another example of a small town newspaper trying to play like the big boys.

I can't stand places that obscenity removed censor their posters.  Total obscenity removed.  If I had my way I'd threat removed those personal attack removed.

It is annoying though and I believed it has been alluded to before. Edited like my fake above is understandable, but to edit because you disagree with a position is unacceptable. Not that I am well aware of the TW positions, but if what you say is true...

While I don't particularly like the practice, remember folks that it's their site and they can do whatever they darn well please.

On my blog, I don't delete comments that disagree with me (even when I had a run of Ron Paul supporters going crazy on my site), but that's my policy on my site.

The Whirled long ago quit even appearing to have a semblance of objectivity. Don't be shocked when they continue the tradition.

Get a free blog site at WordPress.com or Blogger.com and counter their biased "news."

I am always surprised at how freeform it is and I hope they keep it up. Check this comment section for instance.

both the Oklahoman and World websites do this.
they allow comments on some stories, but not on all of them.

either let all stories be commented on, or none of them.  case in point, people are allowed to call for that Underwood guy to be publicly executed, mothers be forcefully sterilized, but you're not allowed to comment on the cop here in Tulsa that stole guns.

the above was on the Oklahoman's website yesterday.

I have quit calling the Whirled out on their lies. There's so many. Just yesterday the front page headline read something like Home Sales Here Trend Up..... Such garbage. They don't get it that Tulsa is a lag indicator and that they better hold onto their seats because the economy here will tank when the rest the country starts to revive....in 2020.

The letters to the editors always reflects their intermost desire. I have learned to laugh rather than holler "phawk them".

The Dallas Morning News is one of the worst at censoring their websites.
It's hard being a Diamond in a rhinestone world.

T-Town Now

It's just this kind of crap that will further erode their readership and circulation numbers. The Tulsa World has never been a great newspaper, and never will be at the rate it's going.

I forget where I was at the time, but a sales person ringing me up asked if I'd seen their ad in the newspaper. No doubt they were trying to determine how well it was working (or not working).

I told them "NO, and I never will see your ad in the paper unless it's in The Dallas Morning News, or an out of state paper."

From the reaction, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the first time they'd heard that...

Sorry to interrupt the hate fest.[:D] FOTD that headline IS the truth. The only reliable information on real estate sales across the state is three months behind. Nonetheless it is the only information compiled for realtor use that is dependable, verifiable and worthy of quoting in a news story. Does that information ACCURATELY define the state of the current market? No. Is it true? Yes. Does it make realtors happy? That's a better criticism and yes it does. So the real estate ad revenues keep rolling in.

What would you have them do with such information? Ignore it and quote a blogger's perception? Or go back historically to prove the rather negative assertion that "the sky is falling"?

Local news is what the World covers better than the other media around here, including the web. You simply cannot find so much legitimate, defensible, professionally written local news anywhere in this city as they provide. The opinion, national news and lifestyle stuff is just superflous. Since it is printed on paper and distributed to the public they MUST be able to defend their reporting. Radio, TV and the Net are simply not in the same business. They can say anything and pretty much get away with it or send it into the atmosphere where it can't be used in court.

Now, continue on with the bear baiting.

Aright, which of you are flaming out over at the World??

I wish they would censor more. That comment section you linked to is a perfect example. There are comments that dont make any sense or seem in any way related to what the other comments are about or the story itself?  It would be nice to actually have comments that mattered, a discussion where people could voice opposing views on the particular topic.  Bringing up 1804 and long strings of gobbledy goop wording dont add in any constructive way to the topic of interest.  The comments should be somehow related to the story or deleted.  Its not a matter of disagreeing or different points of view, its keeping those views and disagreements on topic and enabling a constructive conversation. What could have been a very interesting debate, hearing different points of view on the topic, a chance for people to learn, degraded into unreadable nonsense.

Most of the time it just seems like kids playing around. Seldom are there any intelligent threads there.

The truly disturbing thing is,,, its not kids writing that stuff.
