Does anyone eat there? It's my friend's favorite restaurant and 8 of us went there last night to celebrate her birthday. BLECK! The hostess was rude because the birthday girl was five minutes late and they won't seat you until the entire party is there.
The hostes got so exasperated (after five minutes), she threatened to move our reservation from 645 pm to 9 pm THEN said she would seat us but we may have to be rushed and asked to finish and leave so they could accommodate other people. At that point I was ready to leave. The hostess also looked like she had a problem with her personal hygiene. Very unprofessional and just plain rude.

The food is so below average and the bathrooms are disgusting. No soap -- gross. I am sure they have an employee restroom (right!).
Our cook had facial hair which when you are cooking over a grill and leaning over the food, is pretty disgusting. It was pretty crowded, however. I guess people go for the show???

I can't believe they are still in business. What draws people to this place? I also noticed that while cooking chicken, beef and fish, the chef would just wipe off the utensils he was using on a rag or just stick the knife back in his belt and pull it out and reuse it. I was really disgusted especially when the chef dropped the piece of paper with the orders on the floor, picked it up and set it backk down next to the grill.

I know a lot of gross stuff goes on behind the scenes at restaurants, but I don't want to see it.

Your report is absolutely stunning. I thought of the three hibachi joints I have been to (Osaka, Tokyo Garden, and Shogun), Shogun was head and shoulders above. Guess I was wrong and will second guess going back. It's probably better that I go to Tokyo Garden anyway--they also have a sushi bar.
Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

Its weird that you mention this. I have enjoyed going to shogun for over 10 years, usually for special occasions such as birthdays, and the food and service were always great. About a year ago, I read some reviews on the net about this hostess/manager that was being rude to customers. This past fall, a buddy of mine was celebrating his birthday and wanted to take a large group to shogun to celebrate his dinner. His girlfriend had made the reservation for 8pm (this was on a monday), and I was the first to arrive. Many of the guests, including the birthday boy, were from oklahoma city and had driven in for this, so they were about 10 minutes late. The hostess was not happy. Apparently the restaurant closes at 8:30pm, so I was told that we might not be able to eat. When everyone finally arrived, we were rushed through the whole dining experience with different courses overlapping. Our chef was nice, but the rest of the staff was very short with us, and the portions were tiny compared to what they have been in the past. The thing that I don't understand is why they accepted a reservation for 10 people at 8pm when the restaurant itself closes at 8:30...we would have gone somewhere else or made the reservation earlier if we had known we were going to be such an inconvenience to these people.

Osaka's my favorite. Still doesn't compare to Samarai of Tokyo in Wichita Falls, TX...but we like it better than Shogun.

Are you talking about that shogun hostess? I can't understand why they would keep someone like that around if she is a rude bi*ch to everyone that goes in there.

You nailed that one. I went to Samarai at least three days a week when I was stationed at Sheppard a few years ago. It's still around, huh?

Yep. It's still thriving. They've moved to a new location down the street, but I just ate there last month and it was still just as good. Unfortunately, like Osaka, it seems my favorite restaurant has become the favorite of quite a few others, the crowds at both where pretty bad last visit.

T-Town Now

You should report the restaurant to the Health Department. You'll be doing yourself and your fellow citizens a favor.

Once on the Health Department's radar, they'll have to clean up their act.

I complained once about the Bennigan's at 71st and Yale, because the restaurant was always filthy, with no soap in the men's room and I saw an employee come out of the stall and leave without washing, but with no soap it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

My husband's cousin was a server there, and when I  asked her if it was good, she made a face.  Then I asked her if we should go and she made a really weird face.
So I took that as NO.

sgrizzle

I have a niece who works there so I should ask her. She loves the place.

Remember key word  "was a server"
And she wasn't a big meat eater either anyway...
