Well crud!! We went out last night, bought our new television which was really great and exciting. Great television looking forward to a great Super Bowl party and life is good. But then!!! The wife was putting the car in the garage for the night and our 28 year old garage door opener failed. Seems the drive cog inside the unit is stripped and one of the two balance springs over the door has failed. Anyone have any suggestions for who I might call to get the opener changed out? Grrr!

I've always installed my own garage door openers and have done a couple for my neighbors.  They are very easy and come with simple installation instructions.

As for the broken spring, I'd never attempt that my self.  I've always used Green Country Overhead Door.  They are very fair and only recommend repairs when necessary.  When you change out one spring, you will want to change out the other, if you have two.  Always best to change both out at the same time.

The springs will quickly remove a limb, if not careful. You might just see if Tulsa Overhead door will do the whole kit-and-kaboodle.

I had the same thing happen about a year ago.  I called a couple of the better known garage door places, and they couldnt get to me for several days.

I called Pro Overhead Door and they came out the same day to change the springs.

Assurance Overhead Door has always treated me well.

I've found Tulsa Overhead to always be the most expensive.

Aa got my new garage door opener installed today by Pro. Great response and love the new quiet operation. They put new rollers in as the old ones were worn out. The only problem is now our little dogs cannot hear "mama" when she gets home.
