Does anybody remember parking their car at the mall or wherever else in the Tulsa area, and when ya came out to leave, the whole parking lot was wallpapered by the propoganda tracts of the Tony Alamo organization? They put out fliers about the Pope and other aspects of the Roman Catholic Church, as well as how they (the Alamo church) were the only church on the planet that followed the Bible.

And the organization itself: does anybody remember Tony Alamo?

Oh, you bet I do!  We used to have those priceless little gems taped all over our fridge.

The one I remember the most had this picture on the cover:

Good Times.

Yeah, Austin, Tx. in the 70's, back when I was training to be a Cage Fighter - those wacky booklets were all over the place.

Mostly fluttering around under the canopy of filling stations. Some enlightened soul would put a stack of them on the pump itself- for ones reading pleasure while pumping pertol, I assumed.

I remember being informed the org. wasn't a spoof from the Oat Willies crowd who used to put out all kinds of funny, biting stuff.

Possibly my first brush with Dangerous Kook's of the godhead variety.

So what about the group? Are they making a come-back? Did his wife ever re-surface? Has the Vatician finally bumped Tony off?

Praise be Alluh, jdb

There was a rumor that circulated briefly years back that Alamo Rent-A-Car was a front for Tony Alamo and that renting from them was funding this nut-job.

Turned out to be wrong.  Alamo was funding a future mayor of Tulsa. [;)]

There have been more than one large ad in the TW in the last year or so...I think....

I don't have any idea how they are able to stay nation wide, but I do know they use to have a compound in ALMA Arkansas. Now they have moved to my home town of Fouke, AR. (small town south of Texarkana, north of Shreveport)
You can read more about this so called Christian group and their world pastor <cough cough> here.....

We want everyone to know what we are up against. If anyone has any constructive ideas, please let us know on the Fouke Topix Forum.

Who would have thought?

Make a stand, figure out how a small community can shut them down instead of running them off to a different small community.

The line "we reserve the right to refuse service" comes to mind.
