Urban Exploration

Heard about groups that do "urban exploration." As I understand it, that means they tour lesser known places around downtown areas including vacant buildings and such.

This would be nice around here, tour the top floor of the mayo, old houses, undeveloped properties, etc.

Does a group like this exist in Tulsa?

Now THAT is something that would be interesting. I love walking through old buildings. You can almost feel the history. Old buildings give you a weird feeling when going through them.

I'm in too. I would like to see the crystal ballroom at the mayo and other downtown buildings, pre-renovation.

that sounds interesting.

i remember reading into 'urban spelunking' a few years ago.  people would go into defunct steam, telecommunications tunnels @ university campuses etc.

Reminds me of how we used to go crawling through Tulsa creeks, storm & sewer drains and manholes as kids 45 years ago, "hunting for crawdads" and such.  It's a wonder we didn't injure ourselves or worse.

Here is a link http://triggur.org/silo/silo.html to a site that shows the exploration of an abandonned Atlas Missile Silo that I believe is near Roswell New Mexico. If you use the map icon at the bottom of the page it's easier to navigate. And if any body is curious about where all of the deactivated and active missile sites in the US are you can check out this site http://www.siloworld.com/ it has a file you can down load for Google Earth that shows where they are, including the old Atlas site near Altus.

I would love to go on an urban exploration.  I've driven up to the north, west, and northwest sides of town and found some neat neighborhoods and buildings.  Creating a photoblog of nice not-so-famous Tulsa buildings has been on my to-do list for years.
