It was El Guapo that I was thinking of...can you tell I don't go downtown very often!

A friend of mine is going to be in town doing some business in downtown Tulsa and wanted to meet for lunch, but I'm so unfamiliar with what's downtown or even if I'm going to be able to find a parking spot!

Suggestions, anyone?

Check out Downtownlive! and print out the map.
"DowntownLive is the only comprehensive guide to downtown Tulsa".

It won't help with your parking question, but I don't think you'll have a problem finding a spot.

With millions of Mexican restaurants to choose from in Tulsa (my favorites are El Chico, and El Tequila in BA), eating at one all the way downtown is NEVER gonna happen. [:P]

Wow, El Chico?  Really?

I'm sure I'll get ostracized for this, but El Chico, IMO, is about one step above Casa Bonita/Laredo/Whatever.

The El Chico on 21st street makes great margaritas. The bartender, Theresa, is also great.

El Chico has good food. It is a good place to take the kids and they have coupons from the paper that help make it affordable.
Power is nothing till you use it.

you are forgetting Elote.

I didn't know Elote served food.  I always leave there hungry.  I want to see them do well, but it's also not anywhere on the radar with those prices for those portions.

Funny you mention that, just this week a few guys in the office said the exact same thing. Good food, it just don't fill you up. I think they could resolve the problem if they would just serve complementary chips and salsa like EVERY other Mexican joint in the country.

Avoid Senor Tequila's on 51st.  I went in there for a business lunch (not my choice) and ordered a salad.  The cheese was moldy.  Not a little...i mean GREEN.  It was a challenge to explain to the waiter why I wouldn't pay for it...or why I wouldn't eat it.
I would hate to see what the melted cheese everyone else was eating looked like.

strange, they always bring me chips and salsa, and chips and salsa usually come with my meal as well.

I've thought the exact same thing.  I still think it's a little on the light side, but the chips would help.  They've never given me chips and salsa there.  Overall, it's a little on the expensive side.

Of the new places from this summer, I much prefer Boston Grille.

Remember in Tulsa, whether eating in or out, yellow queso for everyday, white queso for company and special occasions.    I was raised right.   [^]
