I AM NOT STUPID!!!  But we would sure like Kathy Taylor to at least acknowledge that she has some idea what the hell is going on and that she has attended at least one meeting on the issue. Her apparent "don't give a ****" attitude does not bode well.

Ardent obviously is only a business and I am aware that they really don't care about patients, only the money they can get from them.

Also Recyclemichael, I said your an idiot because you couldn't simply respond to my comment, but you had to be an a** also.

It's all OKAY though. Maybe something will actually be done about this whole thing when the Mayor or someone really important does not get an ICU bed because there are not enough in this city.

Also, Thank You Waterboy. That's really all we're asking.

As far as all the chairs matching. Who cares, I've been to some of the fancier facilities in town and although their equipment is great, their bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired.

We will sit and watch what happens.

I hate to break it to you, but the mayor "or someone really important" would never be likely to go there in the first place, even if they had matching chairs and 400 ICU beds.  Why not go to Hillcrest down the street, or St Francis.  Better yet, why not turn part of the mayor's leer jet into a flying ICU medical facility for herself for " just in case factor".

This is a private business matter, why should the mayor step in? So she can run her mouth about a topic she probably knows little to nothing about?

I agree. I see far to much of Kathy Taylor. Please don't get her started on something important.
Changing opinions one mistake at a time.

I am not blaming Kathy Taylor, I just think it's really screwed up that she simply has not got a thing to say about something that is not only going on in HER city, but also in HER downtown area. SAY SOMETHING!!!!

Oh, I forgot, the name of the place is not BOK CENTER!!!!!!

[:(!]

I agree 100%. Seems she is primary flash and dash and not much more. Only real thing we hear from her is yet another big project this and big project that. Hey Major get down in the dirt with the rest of us and lead this city. Please.

I know many will disagree here, and that is your right, but sorry that is just the impression she leaves with me. Oh yes, I do read the newspaper every day and watch the nightly local news. She is very nearly invisible on either of these two public forums.

TOGETHER
Tom Adelson: Providing health care to needy Tulsans — and other residents of northeast Oklahoma — is the art of the possible.

By TOM ADELSON
9/24/2008

During the last four years, 45 cents of every dollar of patient revenue at Tulsa Regional Medical Center has been needed to cover the cost of uncompensated care for the indigent.

Given the burden it should come as no surprise that TRMC survives in an environment of turmoil. Since 1998, there have been four hospital owners. None could succeed without legislative bailout. Every year or two, a crisis looms, threatening both the Oklahoma State University Medical College and the continuation of services for the underserved.

There is a crisis today. Unable to reach agreement with Ardent Health Systems, the current owner of TRMC, OSU has tentatively reached agreement to move its residents to St. Francis Health System.

If OSU residents leave TRMC, it's unlikely this hospital can stay open.

OSU residents supply 85 percent of the care at the hospital. The care OSU physicians and residents provide helps not just TRMC. OSU helps all local hospitals absorb $50 million a year in uncompensated health care costs. In the absence of OSU, the uncompensated care burden will be transferred to the nearest hospitals, St. John Health System and Hillcrest Healthcare System. It's not clear these hospital systems
could sustain that.

If TRMC closes, it's not just the underserved who will experience serious disruptions. It's all of us.

It's the next stroke victim, the next heart attack, and it doesn't matter if the ambulance is transporting the finest privately insured person in the city — hospital capacity to deliver critical urgent care may be seriously compromised. Moreover, the quality of health-care services at St. John and Hillcrest would be jeopardized as the hospitals struggle to absorb $50 million in annual uncompensated care costs. They may not have enough beds to admit patients from referring physicians.

I believe that the Legislature has a responsibility to step in and see that this does not happen. Tulsa is the largest city in the country without a publicly supported teaching hospital.

Oklahoma City receives about $50 million a year to help cover the cost of uncompensated care. Tulsa receives virtually nothing. Those are the facts. Last month's dismissive editorial in the Oklahoman, criticizing Tulsa for "whining" about the disparity, should not dissuade Tulsa's demand for an indigent care subsidy — the centerpiece of any viable plan.

But before the Legislature can be expected to act, the major hospital systems — Ardent, St. John, and St.

Francis — together with both the University of Oklahoma and OSU medical schools must sit down in one room on the same day for a city-wide planning session. Enough bickering. Enough triangulation of legislative leaders. Enough manipulation.

Enough. Sit down and work together. It's hard to understand why the hospitals and the medical schools have failed to work together for the good of the city.

What can we expect from this meeting? A lot. Tulsa hospitals coordinate the delivery of care for the uninsured by supplying a medical home to thousands of underserved northeast Oklahomans. Residency programs locate where the hospitals wish, eliminating duplicate services.

Urgent care and trauma care are strengthened, as is access to outpatient specialty services.

Oklahoma's Medicaid program can provide needed funding and leverage $2 in federal money for every state dollar. The hospitals should contribute as well. Private philanthropy can be expected to step in.

The funds will support each participating hospital based on the amount of uncompensated care furnished relative to its total hospital receipts (or some other variation where resources follow the patients).

Providing health care to needy Tulsans — and other residents of northeast Oklahoma — is the art of the possible. The money is there, as is the framework of a plan; what is needed is cooperation among the health care providers in Tulsa and a public subsidy to help support the burden. For these providers, a plan to deal with the cost of uninsured care is not only good business, but in keeping with their charitable mission.

For the good of all of us, let's work together.

Thank You Okla. Sen. Tom Adelson

Well I am going to be mean here, but that was about worthless. DO something.  I am sick of reading cute little editorials stating the same ol stuff we already know.

your: possessive; belonging to you.

you're: a contraction for "you are" as in "you are an idiot!"

This will help you for the next time you realize that someone is an idiot and you need to point it out to them.

Jonette you are absolutely right about Spincyle. By the way, this is a matter that concerns the city because the City Council and the Mayor had to approve the agreement that created the OSU Tulsa hospital.

P.S. Spincycle is the Executive Director of a Public Trust and his wifey was on da Mare's payroll, FYI. Connecting those dots explains a lot of his B.S.

Yeah well who are YOU? Patton is not elusive or deceptive about who he is but what the eff is a Double A? Can we not stop the infantile behavior for just one matter that concerns us all?

Beating someone to a pulp every time they post anything is not the 'clash of ideas', it is something different altogether exploiting freedom for its own ends.
