parking right across from the arena is neat...

the interior is pomodoris... nice unpretentious atmosphere...

the live jazz was great...

the chorizo perogis were basically totinos pizza rolls...
the quail egg truffled bread was tasty...

the house salad and beet carpaccio were good...

the filet was perfect and the chantrelle demi-glace was excellent... the garlic mashed taters were good as welll...

my wifes red snapper and chips was horrible...
both fish dishes at the table were completely overcooked... mama was not happy....

heard the bread pudding is excellent but we were stuffed...

excellent service...

two drinks each and the total came to $110 per couple... not cheap, not insane...

i'd give it another go because of location and atmosphere but the wife will take some convincing...

not insane? wow! I understand you pay for atmosphere but I have never dropped 110 dollars for dinner (that I have had to pay atleast).  Especially for items that were overcooked.  I guess our lifestyles are different, but to me 110 dollars on something that is going to exit my body in 12hrs isn't worth it.

to each his own...
we often hit that 50 per person for drinks, apps, salads and entrees level at any number of places we eat... but we are picky...

Bruno - wonderful info! You sound like my kind of food fan.

What are some of your other favorites? Any Brookside/Cherry Street haunts? Husband and I shun chains, love local and midtown...

Keo, Lucky's both good,
Still miss (the short-lived) Gill's,
Not a fan of the reworked Chalkboard,
Brasserie great, but an infrequent splurge.

Wondering if there's anything we're missing? I have a feeling you'd know.

Thanks as well Bruno...I have been trying to convince the wife to give it a try.  This is some good ammo to get her there.

OkieDiva-

Some other places worth trying (we also try to vote with our dollars and frequent local restaurants):

Lucky's is our favorite place, and we don't make it to Palace often enough.  Both on Cherry St.

Kilkenny's (Also Cherry St.) is awesome...I was in the UK not long ago and they "nailed" it on atmosphere AND food.  Irish breakfast is like every breakfast I had in the UK.

Tucci's (Cherry St again) is great, but small and they "frown" on young'ns.  We got snubbed there a few weeks ago at 6pm with only 1 other table in place saying "they can't seat us anywhere because it is a bar area over here and the non-bar area is reserved for a 'big party'".  Alas, we may go back anyway...but I plan to try Ciao (Brookside) first, I hear they are great as well, and often have live music.

We have eaten at Keo's, and it was nice, but to be honest, the food was to be desired (by me).  I like Vietnamese food, and I have ordered vermicelli salad at every place I have ever gone and this was the first time it tasted like soy sauce...over the top killed the taste of everything else.  My wife loves their Thom Kai though, so I am sure we will be back, just not for the vermicelli salad.  The Mekong River (behind Toys R Us on 71st and Memorial) is the best vermicelli salad in town hands down.  Location sucks, but vermicelli awesome = return often.

Lanna Thai (51st/Harvard) is the best Thai food in town.  I have tried all kinds of new and interesting stuff there and it is never "americanized".

Fuji (Brookside) is the best sushi around.  I like it better than In the Raw and Tsunami for several reasons...some of those reasons are why people LOVE In The Raw and/or Tsunami, but to each their own.

Lola's (Brady) is great...we used to frequent it for lunch, but last time we went for lunch it looked like they switched to dinner only...someone please tell me it ain't so?!?

Local Table (south Brookside) great food, local ingredinets/menu changes to suit, local chef/family run.  Great atmosphere, reasonable prices.  Home run night out!

I am sure there are others...would love to hear what others have.

I agree, $55/person is high, and we hit that mark on special occasions now and again, but I would guess you could still eat at this place for half that if you cut out alcohol/apps and don't order an expensive entree.  We usually can eat well for about $20-40/person at a number of similar places in Tulsa, and would guess there would be no problem getting in under that amount at SoChey...am I wrong Bruno?

OkieDiva

Wonderful ideas, thanks much BrunoFlipper and jtcrissup. I always forget about Tucci and The Palace, for some reason.

Unfortunately, Fuji is on the banned list. Forever banned. Worst service I have ever had, and I eat out regularly, tip well and am quite tolerant of "relaxed" service. But when one member of your party FINISHES their food and noone else's has even arrived, even after you've flagged down your waiter and a hostess, and the manager just looks at you and shrugs when you complain... well, that gets it on the banned list.

Is Lanna Thai staying put or will it be displaced by I-44 widening?

Haven't heard, but I imagine that whole center is gone.  They do have a location at 71st and Memorial (old Tulsa Brewery location) that I am sure we will switch over to if they don't re-locate in mid-town.  It is a nice place (been in there once).

Sorry to hear about your bad Fuji experience...I agree that being treated poorly is worth banning a place.  Tucci's is on our s-list for awhile for the way we were treated, but I don't have the heart to say banned forever...

riverman

yes! mekong's vermicelli salad is the best in town! worth the trip. great pho, too - also the best I have tried in tulsa.
Tucci's - don't understand the appeal at all. food was mediocre (didn't try the pizza). patio was nice.

Got engaged there, which holds a lot of the appeal for us (sentimental value and such).  Also, we like the pizza/salad for two with a bottle of wine on the patio.  Very relaxing on a nice evening.

I agree on the Brookside Fuji!  I've been a Fuji fan for years, and the service and food at the origional location are second to none, but the Brookside Fuji has been bad from day one!

We've had the exact same experience.

oh yeah, sure... we kind of went balls out since it was our first time there (three drinks each, two apps and the guys both got the filet- which was the priciest thing on the menu)...
definitely, give it a go...
