I was just thinking how absolutely embarrassing some of our convenience store names are and was wondering what names you have seen in Oklahoma.  Quicktrip seems pretty normal, but Kum-n-Go is horrible. Git-n-Go when it was here was bad enough but Kum-n-Go is worse.

I forgot most of the ones I have seen but another one towards Okmulgee called Git-n-Scram made me laugh.

You realize this isn't a Tulsa/Oklahoma phenomenon, right?

I'm pretty sure Kum N Go is an Iowa-based company, for example.

I'm pretty sure that we have our own fair share of strange names.  Regardless of their origins, you can be sure to find a lot of these names here in Okie land.  My wife was at a Kum-n-Go not too long ago and told someone on the phone who is from California that she was at the Kum-n-Go.  The person on the other end said, "You're at the WHAT?"  We try to get others away from the "Okie from Muskogee" mentality where there's nothing but cows and stagecoaches and yet we have had chains called "Git-n-Go".  This doesn't help our image any.

Besides, I would rather have a 7-11 than a Git-n-Scram any day.

I loved the U-Totem name, complete with the totem pole sign.

I've heard before that Tulsa has more convenience stores per capita than any other US city.  I can't remember the source, but I'm inclined to believe it.  Kum-n-go is actually a late arrival to Tulsa.  They already have them all over KS and MO.  It grosses me out, too.

Oh but my favorite is the Get-R-Done tree service that used to have little signs all over town.  A friend's out-of-town sister saw them and asked "What exactly does Get "R" Done mean?"  We had a good laugh.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who wonder if Oklahoman's know how to spell i.e. Little roadside eateries like Karol's Kountry Kitchen...

Kum and Go is in 13 states.  It has stores in Des Moines, Omaha, Kansas City, Wichita, Little Rock, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Madison as well as Tulsa and OKC.

I agree that the name is regrettable, but that it makes Tulsa look bad is a bit of a stretch.  Would they think more of us if you told them you were at "Super Gas Auto Mart" or some other made up fancy place?

btw.  In my college town we called it "the jerk and quirt."  Ya' know, because of the squishy machines.

Yes, Kum-N-Go is a recent "treat" to come to town and I think the forumers were generally less than pleased with the name then. In stillwater they have a "Git-N-Gallup" which is more entertaining than the "A-1 Git-N-Scram" here in town.

Here is the latest one I saw the other day...Kum-Kwik and Go....

I was on a business trip in Iowa several years ago and saw a Kum and Go for the first time and just started laughing at the name. I actually pulled over and took a picture to prove to my wife that such a place existed, the joke possibilities are endless.

And not two or three years later Kum and Go bought Git n Go and here we are. I'm sure there are visitors to Tulsa that do exactly the same thing that I did.
Pitter-patter, let's get at 'er

Kenosha

Quik Trip is the Taj Mahal of convenience stores.

Welcome aboard.  We must be famous even in Iowa.

we problaby just showed up on google talking about kum-n-go.

But how can you really complain when we also have "in-n-out" burger?

AMP

Story has it that Chester with Quik Trip and the largest convienence store owner in OKC made an agreement years ago not to tread on each others turf.

Could that be why you do not see Quik Trip in OKC?

Anyone know the rest of the story?

My favorite is "Tank and Tummy" out on 412 west of Sand Springs.
Yes, Kum and Go is based in West Des Moines, IA ... I used to live right by it. The name is only wierd if you think of it that way. I never thought anything of it until they bought out Git-n-Go and someone commented on the name.

I think this is kind of a stupid thing to whine about .... there are names like this all over the country.
