yep..Been traveling this country 20 years after leaving Tulsa where I grew up.But I am coming home in 2 weeks.Just wondering what to expect, heard Owasso was big now,That was not a good town for me on leave from Army in 1984,spent a night in a 2 cell jail...Bet its bigger now??Later that year I seen the arresting officer drunk in midnight rodeo in restroom flashing his badge, nobody was impressed.
Im in Miami right now,and hate cities with a passion,I am not going to live in Tulsa, but a small town north of there that I lived in before.
After Miami,Minneaplois,Denver,Dallas,Cleveland,New york city and Las Vegas...I had more than enough city life.Im in my 40s now and want some simple Oklahoma life. I have lung cancer, and am not going to give up,But I wanna come home to be with the folks that made me who I am.And usually lung cancer kills within 5 years.
My best friend of 36 years lives there, and we havent spoke since 1997,he had a successful life and with a blink of an eye turned into a meth addict.I hope to reach out to him and maybe make him see that he has a chance.I dont, but he can turn his life around.
TulsaMini..I went to school with you,and you know this man as well.Maybe if your willing,we can both speak to him.He is a fellow westsider and still lives there.
Im asking nobody for anything, just pray for my friend. He has a little boy that needs him.Drugs are something I detest and I have nothing to give now but my time to help someone addicted.

Don't give up. Tulsa has some fabulous cancer treatment facilities.

Don't give up.

Ditto, here. And don't give up on your friend. Recently one of my business aquaintenances with a good business was arrested for meth lab. Total surprise. Your worldly experience will be helpful in both efforts.

BTW, consider Skiatook. Owasso is still a bad experience.[;)]

Owasso has become one big strip mall intermingled with subdivisions.  (in my humblest of opinions)

Welcome home and good luck.

I can relate to wanting to get out of the cities....the pay is great, but what you have to give up in quality of life doesn't make it worth it.  I've lived in 22 different towns/cities, myself.

Good luck with your friend and with your health.  Sounds to me like you've made up your mind to live, so I doubt there's much else to do BUT live.  ;)

Hell I will be ok,lived thru a lot more dangerous situations.Guess 28 years of smoking earns a set of lungs something!
I quit 2 months ago,and sure hate seeing young kids smoking now.If they knew what it gets them they might quit before its too late!

cyndezu

I'm sorry to hear this mdunn and you will be in my prayers and thoughts. Tulsa has excellent Cancer Treatment Centers and hopefully they'll get yours into remission.

I respect your courage to help your friend with the meth addiction but imo few of these people can be helped.

God Bless you sir and know that you are in all of our thoughts.

Sad story. Good luck, mdunn. I hope whatever in life you hoped to set out and do, that you got 'r dunn.

It seems in Tulsa it's our meth addicts and small towns that are reeling people in, and not jobs, our fine city, or anything like that. Oh brother...

Tulsa has always paid lower wages than most of the country,It needs to wake up and pay people better. Its always been that way there.Has nothing to do with cost of living there, just the companys are cheap asses.

You know,  I work two jobs: one full time (I'm a cosmetologist/masseur), and the other technically full-time (at a casino; I have their benefits package anyway), and I have always felt that I've done better economically here in Biloxi, Hurricanes and all, than I did in Tulsa. I mean, I own my condo free and clear, have plenty of discretionary income, and there's never a dull moment. Sometimes, I miss Tulsa, my friends and family, but economically, I gotta do what's right for me.

Are you a dealer?  I figure good dealers probably make good bank at a casino with the tips.

A guy that lives across the street from me works the night shift at the casino out in Catoosa.  He drives a Lexus, so I figure the earnings can't be too bad.

Given my work, I take Mondays off-the rest of the time, if I'm not at the salon in the day, or pulling a swing shift at the casino, I'm found at home taking a cat-nap. But yes, the money for the casino is very good.

And what's even more amazing is, I stated there as a bartender, so if the need arises for an extra bartender, they can call on me. The tips for tending bar are somewhat comparable (for me anyway) to a dealer, though dealer is somewhat more lucrative.
