I bet they are really disappointed in their choice of carpenters given the cost savings, quality of work, and the fact the job will be done early . . .  ;)

I'm thinking of hiring some folks to protest them for their early completion.

I don't know any of the history of this building so i was wondering why it closed down in the first place? Was it back at some period when Tulsa had fallen on hard economic times or did they just run it into the ground and never upgrade things?

There's a great time line on the hotel in the World story this morning dating back to 1980.  It explains the convoluted path that got it here today.

Thanks. Those are incredible pics! We have had two fund raisers there in the lobby and it was total fun. I actually attended a Shell Credit Card function (Xmas party?) there in the late 70's in the ballroom. Can't wait to see it again. If I were single and much younger, I'd be giving those new lofts a serious look too.

C'mon.  Loft living isn't just for the Young and Restless.  You can do it - older and hitched.

Am very excited about this project.  It alone will not turn downtown but is certainly a vital cog - and easily one of the nicer rens.  I hope to get invited to a function in the Ballroom soon.

Were they going to host an open house again?

Who knows the costs of the lofts?  I know different sizes will cost different.  Will they be rentals or purchases?  Trying to find something in the downtown area, but nearly all are rentals.  Think I would be more interested in something to purchase.

Rentals for now; Same with the Philtower lofts. It seems like someone said that the funding on both of the buildings dictated that the lofts had to remain apartments for ~5 years before they could be considered for purchase, but I can't remember.

I too am more interested in the purchase of housing downtown that is within my price range, but most everything is either rental or priced out of my range. That is pretty much the only reason that I don't live downtown.

Just my 2 cents, but I wish a requirement for receiving Vision 2025 funding was that at least 10% of the units had to be affordable (below market rate or something along those lines for at least the first owner).  I don't understand why they have to be rental, as though being rental makes them somehow affordable.

I think it would have something more to do with ownership of the property remaining in control of the group using the funds, therefore they are responsible for maintaining the property and not turning it over for a quick sale and profit.  I believe I heard that the Mayo is also received funding from the National Trust, they have their own rules governing grant funding that could have them in full ownership for the five years before they are released to sell the property and/or apartments.

As for the affordability, I found myself drooling over even the one bedroom apartments (around $740) and that I could be spending less on living in the Mayo with way more amenities than the morgage+bills I currently have on my house.

The Mayo is gonna be awesome! One of the few good expenditures for 2025.....

the apartments were running from $700's (one bedroom) to $2,500ish (two levels - multiple bedrooms/balconies).  No guarantee but in 5 years you may be able to purchase a used apartment.

The only thing that I found to be irritating was that nearly every single apartment had a shower entrance with an angled wall.  We were told the design is supposed to mimic the 'exact angle of the BOK center'.  The showers ranged in size from appropriate to super large, I might say that if you want a door on your shower or some privacy from a pair of binoculars you'll need to special order some tiles to fill in the angle or get an angled door installed (ps please dont hit your head).

The views are excellent but the windows are not so solar friendly...they are installing shades though  :-\

Or you could just close your blinds or bathroom door when taking a shower.  Probably a little easier than installing a custom door.  The only way someone with binoculars could see you in the shower would be if you had an apartment with a bathroom door that happened to line up with a window, had your blinds open, left the bathroom door open, and then stood in the doorway to the shower.  So basically, if you are trying to be an exhibition you might be able to get lucky (pun intended).

Also, I entered a few of the showers with no problems at all.  The only way you could hit your head is if you missed the 2' space that is 7 feet tall - and that would take a large head!  I thought they were unique and somewhat odd, but the angled shower doors certainly weren't a major issue.

Want to give a huge public apology to Ryan Smart Photography for not having credited him with the photos that I used of his on the first post and have now added the credits above his pics. I also want to point out that I adjusted a couple of the images I posted so what you see there does not reflect his actual artwork which you can find on his website. www.ryansmartphotography.com   I had run across these pics on flickr while on one of my "hunting for interesting pics of Tulsa" searches, and had not seen his website before. He has some nice work and I want to apologize again for not having credited him earlier and even possibly have sent some work his way as a result of people seeing them and knowing who took them. Yes, I am paying for the pics since I had used them on here, and boy its not cheap lol.  I am hoping he lets me have a couple more months to get the money together to pay for them  :-\.

He must have been really ticked.  I hope he cuts you some slack, at least time wise.

Yea, its costing me about a weeks worth of work,,, and I am already behind on bills since things have been so slow lately. When it rains it pours. Guess its what I get for not doing my due diligence when posting pics.  Took a couple others off that I didnt take notes on so dont have any clue as to who took them.  Don't want someone else tracking me down and coming after me.  I have been very good lately about taking notes like that, but wasnt always so and have a lot of pics that I dont remember where they came from.

Artist,

The pictures are posted on flickr under a creative commons license:

Under the terms of that license you have to give attribution for his work, which you failed to do.  But you never claimed rights to the images, pretended they were your own, made commercial gain, or from what I can tell did anything with the image that would otherwise violate the license or had any personal gain.  Nor is there indication that he has, nor intends to utilize the image for commercial gain.  Thus, proving that he was damaged in any way would be very difficult.   I hope you offered to buy them feeling bad that you failed to provide an attribute and it wasn't a forced transaction.

The man has some very impressive photos (particularly in difficult light situations), but I hope he isn't forcing you to pay egregious prices under threat.
