Being a movie buff, I'm out to see the movies that interest me, those with a good pre-opening buzz and a good trailer. Add to it the fact that I live within walking distance of the nearest multiplex, why wouldn't I take advantage?

Now, sure, I've seen most of the big ticket flicks of the year (and uh, Fantastic Four was pretty good, go see it). But as splashy as the new flicks are, something always brings me back to the classics.

So to get the conversational topical ball rolling, I had a friend back in New Orleans who had a huge collection of old films. And the two that made the biggest impact on me, was "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane," with Bette Davis and Joan Crawford (that movie just chilled me to the bone!), and the other was an old horror film from 1932 called "Freaks." An old friend from Tulsa, a film historian in his own right, advised me that this latter was so controversial, it was banned in the UK for 30 years. Has anyone else seen these?

So what are your favorite classic films?

"Baby Jane" was excellent.  I've not seen "Freaks".

I'm a huge Casablanca fan.  Ingrid Bergman was crazy hot.

John Wayne movies were in front of me all through childhood.

I'll always stop and watch "War of the Worlds", "The day the Earth Stood Still", "Them", Hitchcock theater of all kinds, there are too many I could list...man, now I know what I'll be vegging to tonight.

My wife and I are into 1950's/early '60's classics.  Breakfast At Tiffany's, Roman Holiday, Streetcar Named Desire, Sabrina, etc.  One of my all-time favorite older films is Good Neighbor Sam with Jack Lemmon.

During the winter, we usually make a weekly trip to Blockbuster and pick out four or five movies for the week.  Usually three or four of them are newer and one is a classic.  Sometimes we get three classics and two new releases.

You have got to see it! It will thrill and chill, which is what a horror film should do anyway!

"Baby Jane" to this day gets me unsettled and spooked. It's one of those films that they had it down to a science. The studios could do remake after remake of it, and none of them could even touch the original.

They say it's the most perfect movie ever done. Good actors, a good director, a multi-layered script, great characters. Definitely among my faves.

All of them great films, specially "Streetcar."

The AFI 100 has a number of movies listed (many of them classics) that have broken the boundaries in film making.
