Tulsa police officers searched a house where a burglar had shot a resident Monday but did not find the intruder inside. The victim was transported to a local hospital in serious condition, an EMSA spokeswoman said.

Police had surrounded the home near Fourth Street and Garnett Road after the resident was shot after finding the burglar inside his home around 10:30 a.m. Police Sgt. Stephanie Jackson said police tried to negotiate with the shooter in an attempt to get him to surrender. However, when they searched the house around 4:30 p.m., they found that the intruder was not inside.

My sincere deepest sympathies and best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to Mr. Mondragon and his family. I doubt we agree on every issue, but I have profound respect for his professionalism and community activism. I shudder to think that such a desperately needed, invaluable voice on the comprehensive plan update steering committee came so perilously close to being silenced forever.
