Does anyone here know many good examples of p3s in NE Oklahoma?  Specifically with maintenance contracts, infrastructure monitoring, and meter reading.

I am also looking for a firm that knows how to write contracts for them.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Sid, welcome aboard.  For some of us who aren't familiar with the acronyms you used, could you please expand a little as to exactly what you are looking for?

Sure,

Public/Private Partnerships are in a sense, the coupling of private assets (money, labor, etc) with Public needs to solve general and specific issues.  We do this every day in the form of contracting road work, but only recently have a more general approach to them been considered acceptable by communities.  For example, many towns, counties, states and even nations (Canada, Brazil, and more) are finding that using already existing private resources, they can leverage either larger projects or make smaller projects more efficient.   Some call it "privatization" but those involved dispute this stating true privatization relinquishes all control but partnerships are designed and monitored in such a way that service to the customer (taxpayer) remains the leading focus.   Some examples of these partnerships include transfer of infrastructure maintenance (i.e sewer system) or even complete leasing of property with limitations of the property's use so public use of the land is not disturbed.
Many towns are lauding this approach claiming substantial savings.  Reasons vary from less requiring less expensive equipment to more (private) options for funding public infrastructure improvements.
I am interested to learn much more about this option and the many variations of "PPPs or P3s".

There are many online resources for information but I am looking for more local examples and expertise.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Privatizing our government? To a degree. We wouldn't want to outsource education or police....would we? Sewars? Interesting.

It worked with trash pick up. Turn FEMA over to ppp's!

I think you are right...police and education is where most people would draw the line.  It seems no matter what "system" you look at... a high degree of oversight is needed by a governing body of representatives.  Trash service is a great example...can a municipality provide trash service?  Sure, but it MAY come at a higher cost to the taxpayer and some would argue with inferior service than what a private competing business would offer.  I think one key is going to be not monopolizing anything.  Franchise agreements and so forth may work only if the regulation is in place to prevent a community from improving it's options later.

Oh and I forgot...I am also looking for good examples of intergovernmental agreements.  Specifically municipality to municipality for the purpose of maintaining an infrastructure.

Sorry for the "parade of questions".  :)

County Comishies aren't going to like that idea.....unless you include them. That's how it seems to work. Of course, sometimes you can get their early assistance and then they resign just in time to take a piece of the action. [;)]

Yeah, they don't like the muni/muni deals as much but it is not always necessary to leave them out.  ;)

inteller

this state was built on public private partnerships.  but here in oklahoma we call them "back room deals".

Things like the ODOT contracts that go to the same guys everytime in the name of "public private partnerships"
