"SINCE SAN FRANCISCO is the city with the greatest illicit drug use and DC is one of those with the least (but the most cops), we thought we'd check and see how the war on drugs was keeping us safe. Turns out that in 5 of 7 categories of crime - including all categories of violent crime - it was safer to be living around those awful Frisco druggies."

It has less to do with drugs and more to do with the economic situation of the citizens.

Well, people here are rather authoritarian and  would rather try to solve a problem with suppression, this is another great disqualifier. The drug war is a futile attempt to regulate peoples actions. There was never a "marijuana problem," until people needed to demonize a certain group. My advice if you smoke marijuana, move to Oregon.

P.S. I dont smoke

Since marijuna is Oklahoma's top cash crop, I think we should just legalize it and enjoy the tax revenue.  Imagine the boost to our state!  A huge influx of tax money AND tourism all in one fell swoop...and think of the savings to law enforcement and the court system.  It would probably cut down on crime in general...b/c who ever heard of a "mean stoned?"

Eureka Springs is closer. Much lower crime rate there from what I understand, probably cheaper to live there, too.

The clash of ideas is the sound of freedom. Ars Longa, Vita Brevis!

When you have a Law School in town, the alumni seem to move towards politics.  The legislatures, who most are attornies discoverd that the kids of wealthy and those gainfully employed enjoyed street drugs, sex and Rock & Roll back in the late '60s.

Creating laws against things that a large precentage of the population enjoys is good business for Courts, Judges and Defense Attornies.

Hardly ever see many laws against consumstion of bottom of the barrel Alcohol, such as low alcohol Beer.  Or consentual sex with Fat Middle age people.  Mainly because not too many people are interested in it.

Most things that are popular become "illegal" so the legal profession can profit from it.

It is obvious many of the Middle East folks are doing the wrong chemicals.  Not sure what is in their water supply or what is popular on the street there, but I can say it sure does not seem to mix well with their chemical make up.

Can't say as I ever knew anyone that was interested in building "road side bombs" in the 1960s and 1970s.

Lawyers, judges and politicians conspiring to achieve job security by outlawing the public's grog? Man I thought I was a cynic! BTW, the weathermen did some bombing back then if I remember right. Its all so fuzzy...

DING DING DING!

We have a winner folks.

The state makes more money seizing the drugs than by taxing it. Look how much is going to be made off a recent bust...

^ It's a good thing there's alooooot more to life than money! (though some are not yet aware of this, some how.)

bigdtottown

We could legalize it, but only for export...that way no one could complain.[:D]
...talk about putting Oklahoma on the map!

But there would be no large tax boost, because the average person would grow their own.  Would it hurt revenue, even, if folk laid off the alkiehaul?

Just decrim it.....then we'd have more folks thinking Tulsa is a nice laid back easy going and slow community.....
