I might have asked this before, but are there any good bread bakeries in the area? Penera is close to good bread, is there anywhere else I can get firm breads?

Also does anyone bake a good hoagie roll? Nothing I have found is firm enough and has that bit you get in a hoagie roll back east.
Thank you,
Robert Town

Try Ann's, Admiral & Harvard.  At least I know they do smaller sandwich rolls we've gotten for parties over the years.  Not so certain about loaves or hoagies.

I wish I liked Ferrell's more.

Their bread is firm all right ... to where I nearly sprain my jaw trying to chew it. [xx(]

I like hearty food, but come on!

try the market at Stonehorse in Utica Square, their ciabatta is excellent as is their other breads.

Another good option is Bodean's market at 51st & Harvard.  Excellent ciabatta and sourdough.

In other words, RW recommends the Wonder Bread/Hostess bakery outlet at 11th & Sheridan

Nah. It's just that bread shouldn't be the consistency of styrofoam. My mama sure didn't bake bread like that.

There's plenty of good breadmakers out there. Ferrell's, to my regret, is not one of them.

If you can make it to one of the farmer's markets (Cherry Street on Saturday mornings or Brookside on Wednesday mornings), you can buy from Lunabread. I've had his wheat bread and ciabatta bread. Both were yummy. I don't know if he does hoagies. I was interested in buying flour from a local source and Cris (the owner of Lunabread) said he might start selling milled Oklahoma wheat flour for those that want to make their own bread at home.

I thought I set you up to knock one out with my little inane quip. Guess I am getting old.
