Some probably bad jobs news, but not as bad as Level 3 closing the former Wiltel office in Tulsa.

Level 3 Communications is beginning to cut some jobs as it consolidates operations with recently acquired WilTel Communications of Tulsa, Okla., but specific numbers weren't disclosed.
"Our job is to take the best of both companies and put together an even stronger company," Sunit Patel, Level 3's chief financial officer, said Thursday. "As far as job reductions go, it will impact more in Tulsa, but it might impact in some areas here. It's still early in the process."
Broomfield-based Level 3 had about 3,000 communications employees as of late 2005. WilTel had 1,800.
Patel said the integration of the two wholesale communications providers started this month and will continue for most of the year.
He described the companies as having many complementary operations, which could lessen the overall impact.
