Homegrown Tomatoes

This piece in todays paper about homegrown tomatoes makes my mouth water.  I noticed today that the first tomatoes are starting to have color on them.  I am so ready for fresh homegrown tomatoes.  Nothing tastes like them.

We had our first tomato off the vine with dinner tonite, one of the heirloom varieties from the guy in Jenks. Sat nicely against a scoop of cottage cheese and one of the 18inch cucumbers I harvested this morning. It was wonderful. Thank God the bees showed up!

I was having trouble with my tomato plants about a week ago because of water stress. Too much rain.

But now that it's been dry for about a week, they seem to have rebounded nicely. Warm temperatures don't hurt, either.

My romas were attacked by blossom rot.  Never had a problem before.

Had to look it up to learn it was a calcium deficiency.

I added feed with calcium and it seems to be working...I want to eat a fresh tomato soon.
