From my understanding it is only 3c cheaper if you use a walmart card.

Also, they went to ethanol blend first.

Most stations are cheaper if you use the credit card... if all goes to plan they will gain loyalty and earn far more than that in interesting on your card.

I have heard that it is just a common promotional program. They started doing the discount when Wal Mart started selling gas. They just have never stopped.

Wait a minute I'm curious myself...
You do not have to buy anything else and its not a credit type card (Visa gift card etc.) just tell the cashier you want, say, 30 dollars on a Wal Mart gift card and you go right out to the pump in the parking lot and fill up @ .03 cheaper ..
Isn't Murphy Walmart's co. anyway...
If its just a promo to get you in the store thats fine but it never made a lot of sense to me other than a promo...
Its an OK promo just not a spectacular one...

It's because you are using Walmart's card for the purchase.  Which means Walmart doesn't have to pay some other credit card company for a portion of the sale.  And if you don't happen to pay the Walmart credit card in full that month, Walmart just made even more money off you.  It's just business.

MurphyUSA isn't walmart, they are a small operator who landed a big contract.

Companies like gift card because someone will put $30 on the card, their tank will hit full at $22.50 and they will lose the card in the seat cushions.
