These Aren't the Droids You're Looking For

« on: June 26, 2018, 12:07:45 pm »

The E.W. Scripps Co. has signed a deal to sell its five radio station cluster in Tulsa to Oklahoma-based Griffin Communications for $12.5 million. The sale is the first in what is expected to be a series of deals as Scripps spins off its 34 radio stations in eight markets to focus more intently on its TV business.

Griffin Communications doesn’t own any other radio stations but it already owns KOTV-TV and KQCW-TV in the Tulsa market. Adding the Scripps radio cluster to its Tulsa TV stations is made possible by the FCC’s elimination of the radio-TV cross-ownership ban that took effect in February. The 43 year-old rule prohibited common ownership of radio and TV stations in the same market. Stations included in the deal are talk KFAQ (1170), CHR “106.9 K-Hits” KHTT, classic hits “92.9 The Drive” KBEZ, classic country “Big Country 99.5” KXBL and country KVOO-FM (98.5).

What little radio I do listen to, seems unaffected.
