Tulsaworld.com and 300 other newspaper and television websites across the country have launched a new online auction network to help their readers sell items.

Boocoo Auctions can now be found at http://tulsaworld.boocoo.com. For the first two weeks, readers who list their items on the site will not have to pay any fees. They can also list as many things as they want.

Afterwards, Boocoo promises that transaction fees will be lower than any of the other major auction sites, including eBay.

What separates Boocoo Auctions from other online auction sites is its connection to so many popular newspaper websites. Many times, most items don't sell on auction sites because of the lack of exposure and advertising. When you list an item on Boocoo Auctions, it will show up not only on boocoo.com, but on all of the 300 media partner sites, including http://tulsaworld.boocoo.com.

Newspaper websites attract more than one third of all internet users, according to a study for the Newspaper Association of America.

“The reach of newspapers and television in their market combined with their respective website audiences will provide the most powerful promotional platform available,” said George Willard Sr., the founder, CEO and chairman of Ranger Data Technologies Inc., the creator of Boocoo Auctions.

I don't know.  They are certainly behind the 8 ball, but if the marketing is done well, I can see where this might have a chance.  They would have to sacrifice a great deal of real estate marketing it within their own pages, but I see a market for it.

Unfortunately, I anticipate that they will want to turn it into more of a profit center through advertising and that may be it's unraveling.

If you can't find a buyer on eBay, either you don't understand sound online auction pricing strategies or you don't know how to write an attractive listing.  eBay has withstood every serious challenger, they ARE the game.  Other sites have come and gone and even Yahoo failed in the auction business.  eBay has the payment business, buyer guarantees, the marketing, and name familiarity.  I say good luck, but I don't see how they can think they will make a serious dent in eBay.

eBay may be The Game, but it still sucks.  The variety and pricing have gone from very good to barely acceptable over the last few years.  Much of the stuff I look for is Buy it Now from commercial concerns or sellers that make eBay their lives.

If Boocoo could be more like eBay used to be, I'd use it.

As of they day they switched to the e-edition and this auction site, they now have the worst news website in Oklahoma.

BRAVO!

Now, the page has:
1) Tulsa World banner/logo, with links to different sections
2) An expanding, contracting, 980x400px banner ad
3) "Breaking" news
4) A 980x90px banner ad
5) The "Find What You Need Marketplace", just shy of 400px tall
6) 300 or so pixels of the e-edition

7) THEN, the day's headlines.

This tops any bad news website I've seen--and we've seen a lot of those in Tulsa.

Thank God for KOTV.com.

On the Tulsa World site, just click on today's date up at the top for a list of all the headlines.  You skip all the photos and noise.

Also, try the shopgoodwill.com auction site.  It's very low-tech compared to ebay, but you probably don't have to worry about fraud and the money goes to a good cause.
