http://www.tulsaworld.com/article.aspx/Area_metal_recyclers_up_ante_on_aluminum_cans_for_Earth/20130421_15_A22_EarthD470263Earth Day is Monday, April 22, and five area metals recyclers are offering extra cash for aluminum cans.
CMC Recycling: 1804 N. 166th East Ave., Tulsa, 918-439-3664 - 71 cents per pound, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. It will offer hot dogs, sodas and Earth Day T-shirts (for as long as they last), said David McCallon, plant manager.
Take U.S. 169 to Pine Street and straight east 3.5 miles (through 161st East Avenue) and look for 166th East Avenue.
Advanced Metal Recycling: 2300 N. Lewis Ave., Tulsa; 918-592-5050 - 70 cents per pound, with drawings for a 50- and 39-inch flat screen, tablets and gift cards Monday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Its Sapulpa plant will also sell $5 Earth Day T-shirts designed by area school students, proceeds going to the Food for Kids Backpack Program (sending food home with them every Friday to feed them through the weekend).
Take U.S. 75 north from downtown to Apache Street, exit and turn left (west) onto Apache and go about one-quarter mile to Lewis Avenue and turn left (south). The building is on the right next to the railroad tracks. When leaving, take Lewis Avenue north, go under U.S. 75 and get on its southbound entrance ramp.
BAM Recycling: 10210 E. 50th St., Tulsa; 918-355-4000 - 65 cents Monday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Take the Broken Arrow Expressway to U.S. 169 and get off at 51st Street. Go west to 103rd East Avenue and one block north to 50th Street. Free hot dogs will be served 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., said owners Buddy and C.J. West.
Plant managers say Tulsa's new universal, curbside recycling program has had little effect on their aluminum can recycling business, as, "The people who recycle aluminum for cash are not just giving it away, now, to the new city recycling program."
