Title: I'm Tired of Being Sandblasted by the Trucks!
Post by: Nick Danger on April 22, 2008, 05:17:27 PM
I'm really tired of being sandblasted on the highway by the sand and gravel trucks that are so prolific! My car hood looks terrible, and I have a couple of dings in my windshield from some of the larger chunks that have hit it.

And the *funny* thing is, none of these trucks sport a license tag! Aren't vehicles that travel the streets supposed to be licensed?? How do these companies get away with not having them properly tagged?

The interstates are terrible....My vehicle probably has about 500.00 dollars worth of damage from a trip up and back on I 44...It was only about 6 months old but needs a windsheild and and the hood repaired....All occured on that trip.....Sounded like BB's pelting it....It was not the truckers fault but ODOT for not cleaning up from sanding the interstates....

It's absolute crap.

I deliver catering as my college job and my vehicle gets brutalized by these things.

And the trucks that carry the trees, etc. are just as bad. In December (before the storm, note) I hit a log on the highway (impossible to avoid) and it made my airbags deploy, did damage underneath and was totaled.

The highways in Oklahoma are just a bad experience overall, and the common person pays the biggest price tag.

Larger vehicles are required by state statute to put their license plate on the front.  They are licensed.

I lost a windshield to one of this trucks, tracked them down and made them pay for it.

Bread- if you are talking about the WRT, then there's no excuse.  OTA should have plenty of money for keeping the interstates clean on their turf, unless the legislature's figured out a way to raid their coffers to buy braille books for the hearing-impaired.

The sand-blasting is bad but I'm sick and tired of the jostling and banging over expansion joints on my trek from home to work via the BA and Hwy 75 each day.  Who on earth taught the cretins who try to fill the holes that building up an asphalt mound and packing it with a shovel is as bad as the original hole?

I replaced ball joints on my truck not four months ago, and it's way out of whack again

Isn't ODOT responsible for the highways through Tulsa, or is this a part of what we are waiting on from our street committee?

Isn't that convenient ... if one dings your car it makes it nearly impossible to ID it.

Don't you just love their signs proclaiming,
"Not responsible for vehicle damage!" Yeah, saying makes it so...

Or, "Stay back 100 feet.  Not responsible for damage!"

I believe the way it ends up is if it FALLS from their truck they pay, if it is debris kicked up from the road it is an "act of god" and the party is not responsible.  Which makes sense to me.

These trucks are supposed to have their ODOT/DOT number placed on the side of their truck in a manner that it can be seen.  While it's still not as good as being able to read the plate as the stuff is falling off of it and hitting you when it's in front of you, it's better then trying to pass them, and then read it in your rearview.  And the DOT number is just as good for tracking them down.
