One thing I noticed was an application for a variance of the parking requirement from 5 to 0 for an old-fashioned "mom & pop" neighborhood grocery at 3rd and Phoenix. (The Blue Jackalope.)
I hope the BOA will grant this variance. I've been to a neighborhood meeting at this location, and everyone is cheering for the owner to get this shop off the ground. (It should be noted that many neighbors WALKED to the meeting...just as they would walk to the store to buy milk or toothpaste.) There's no parking on site (except on the street) b/c the neighborhood was built in the early 1900's.
The Crosbie Heights neighborhood needs all the cool, funky new development they can get. I'm glad that the owner of the Blue Jackalope realizes that this historic neighborhood was designed to be --and should remain-- WALKABLE. It's an area with a lot of promise. Parking is not the problem.
I hope the BOA won't stand in the way of this terrific project. The goofy parking requirements were a bad idea in the 1970's...and they certainly don't apply in this case.
(ps: don't be surprised if Crosbie Heights becomes the next "hip" neighborhood. It's got the bones, the location, and the price is right for the next generation of funky/cool. I've got my fingers crossed. Artist's colony, anyone?)
HE better get the variance, thats all I have to say, its finally not a church (though I did do my eagle scout project there. ) I wish someone would have bought the TV store a shame it turned into a church (there is enough in the area.)
