Title: home invasions? pancakes?
Post by: brunoflipper on April 21, 2008, 09:24:26 AM
i screwed this post up in a different thread...

a block from cascia/utica square a family was robbed/tormented... broken into at 4 AM and the family held at gun point while the house was ransacked... near 23rd and lewis...

ktul and kotv cover it but the tulsa world seems to skip over it... am i mistaken, did they cover it?

but then, you look closer and realize that there have been two others at 51st and yale and 51st and memorial just last week (the 14th)...
3 weeks ago, in march, there was one in owasso... a cop tells me that her advice is to "shoot them"... which is a nice thought but a little hard to do when you never hear them come in and wake to a gun in your face...

i hate to sound like a wacko but wow, welcome to the wild west...

I was reading about the different areas and crime yesterday.  pancakes is going on?

That stuff sounds like things you see in a movie.  What's happening to Tulsa?

Do we know if it is the same group doing it over and over, or some kind of trend?  Most criminals are even smart enough to realize this is out of bounds, beyond "just" property crime.  Generally, obscure crimes like this are one group - and when someone finally does shoot the SOBs it will be over.

Lets hope so anyway.

Well, if they ever decide to head down to Broken Arrow, the alarm system going off might dissuade them a little bit as well as wake me up..which means they will soon be getting a face full of pepper spray from a can so big you might confuse it with EZ cheeze. Eh, it's no gun.. but I am willing to bet they wouldn't stick around past trying to get one of the doors open, which is going to take them 5 or 10 minutes of kicking until they break their ankles trying to break through grade 1 deadbolts screwed into the door frames.

It'd be good fun.

These idiots have GOT to somehow know the people to which they do this crap. At least most of them. Every now and then one does get their head shot off.

This BS will never stop until we make some examples out of these punks. Clean out death row. Make the sentence fit the crime. If you get 10 years SERVE 10 years, not 2!

The media does not even cover half of them. Parking lot hold ups are still going on too but when was the last time you heard about one.

How did the couple know it was the fellows who knocked on the door aksing to mow the lawn or trim the trees if they were masked?

Something tells me one of the robbers had been in the house before and/or knew the victims, because of the masks, and it sounds like they were pretty sure there was a safe.

I've got .40 cal hydra-shocks waiting for these a-holes if they can get through either steel case doors or a 2.5" thick hardwood door.

.......maybe somebody is inspired by the impunity that the criminal in 'No Country For Old Men' ran with.

Really though, waking up to that, i'd be like "Welcome to Bible Study, welcome to the foothill of ZION.  Uh, Hast thou come to take a spoil?"  Since I virtually dwell without bars and gates, like this people trust in, they might not bother with the lack of choice, but from a few copies of the KJV.

Yeah, the local media never cover crime, they're too focused on well-researched investigative journalism. (end sarcasm)

"Last year, 28,603 crimes were reported in Tulsa, a decrease of 0.47 percent, according to the Tulsa Police Department's statistics."  (TW 2-7-08)

I think 28,200 of those were reported -- breathlessly and without any context -- by local media.

Hmm a friend of mine told me her story today, about a group of 5 or so black youth walking down the middle of the street in her neighborhood Saturday, making lots of noise.  She thought it odd, since she only knew of a couple black families nearby, and neither had kids this age. Then they got up Sunday to find the tailgate missing from the truck parked in the driveway.  According to the police, there were several calls from her area for just that same thing.

I myself almost lost a digital camera from Amazon off my front porch just before Christmas.  I just happened to look out the front window after hearing the UPS truck, and saw a guy running toward my house from Yale.  As soon as he saw me in the window, he stopped, pretended to be messing with the neighbors trash, then walked back the other direction. A ways out, he turned, looked at me (still staring him down), and raised his hands in the air in a "What??" gesture.  This one was a white guy.

I don't know what it is.  We don't seem to have a lot of police presence.  Looks like we will have to start up neighborhood watches again.  And for the first time in my life, I'm thinking about buying a gun.

Once in a while someone with some real information will post.  Relative, friend, witness, someone afraid to identify themselves but needing to get something off their chest.
A lead is a lead, but its lost if you shut off the channel because you cant take the static.

Most crime stories involving black perpetrators eventually gets the comments turned off. Either there are a lot of racist individuals here or they all congregate on the World's comments section.

I didn't know you could read a radio station dumbass.  but you are right, since he didn't have enough money he probably wasn't one of the tough guys on here talking about thick doors and hydra shocks.  I guess the invaders were expecting more since hitting the Cascia joint.

Is there something wrong with being prepared to protect you and your family from a 'home invader', inteller? I'm just trying to figure out why you started on about this internet tough guy business. Would you rather someone not have some sort of plan and just let this scum come into their house and take their possessions and/or possibly get killed even without resisting?

I'm not trying to be argumentative, just wanting to understand what you are getting at.

I've got steel case doors and hydra shocks myself.  I also carry my gun whenever I answer the door.  I keep a spare clip with personal protection ammo in it. I have a couple of ball bats place about the house in easy to get to locations, and a kitchen full of knifes.  Does this mean I'm a really really internet tough guy?  And here I was just thinking I was peranoid (with good reason albeit).

What is tough guy about that?  He didn't say he wants to get them, nor did he imply he was tougher than they are...  he just stated that he has a pistol and implied he would shoot them if they got through his very standard doors.  If the need arose, I imagine most people would have the same basic idea.

Hell, he didn't even imply he would be successful, just what he would do.

On the doors - I have steel screen doors (don't bother locking though), I have decorative steel bars on my windows (whatever you call them, they make one large pane look like smaller pains and probably offer minimal if any real protection) and steel doors with dead bolts to me house.  I didn't add these because I was paranoid, they were put in my midtown home when it was built about 20 years ago.  What's the big deal with his setup?
- - -

This one seems different than the other invasions, probably to the dismay of other criminals as severe acts such as this put low life's in jeopardy. When they just wave a gun and take money, many people will just comply.  Now that someone complied and got executed - it seems likely that compliance will come more difficult and trigger fingers will be a bit more edgy.

I imagine it is tied to this man's past. Here is what I can find on him:

Frederick Anthony Wilson born  08/06/1982:

1. Drug Possession (still paying this fine from 1996)
2. Raped a child with an instrument (one of the 5 men with him took pictures of it apperently)
3. Three separate paternity suits (while married to someone else)
4. Traffic crap (never has a license, etc.)
5. Civil breaking and entering

Not a bad 10 year run.  Keep in mind he probably has Juvenile records that are sealed... seeing how he died at 25.  It is more impressive if you keep in mind that he got 4 years in 1996 and 15 years (plus 7 , concurrent) in 2001 for the rape charge.

I do not have the full information on the child rape charge, but I'll go out on a limb and assume that he was not on the straight and narrow and was involved with something that got him shot last night.  I can't say he deserved to die, but by the limited information I have society was just saved some trouble.

Obviously some home invasions are random.

Some of them aren't. I had two neighbors who were known to have been dealing Xanax and other prescription drugs. One night, they claimed they answered the door and two guys beat them within an inch of their lives. Claimed they didn't know them, simply couldn't imagine why this happened, and warned us that we should be on the lookout.

I just nodded my head as they told this story, but I knew better.

In case you're wondering, they moved away not long after that.

BTW, I think having a barking dog behind your door is a far better deterrent than a gun no one can see or is even sure that you have.

I have ~ 150 pounds of dog.  They sooner lick someone to death than actually hurt them, but the noise is probably more important.  You can force me to turn off an alarm, but so much shut my dogs up.

Plus, some people are just afraid of dogs and/or don't realize 95+% of dogs are no threat to anyone.

I don't think you are at much risk unless you are dealing drugs like this guy was. The other home invasion was scary but I doubt a sign on the door would have dissuaded them. Now that tooth bearing, snarling Yorkie, there's some protection!

Sometimes there's drugs involved or other illegal activity going on to cause the invasion to happen in the first place. Then other times it's a true robbery. I'm not worried about home invasion robberies at all, I sleep with a loaded gun and have the doors dead-bolted, the noise of anyone breaking thru the door  will wake me up and give me more than ample time to take cover and take aim. There are other crimes that I am more worried about..[xx(]
