Title: Hillary's Tax Records
Post by: spoonbill on April 11, 2008, 06:27:01 AM
Well I guess we know now why Hilldog didn't want to release her tax records!

Bill's been spending your money big! While making his fortune.

In fact, his presidential retirement benefits cost taxpayers almost as much as those of the other two living ex-presidents combined.

(from Politico News)

The price tag for Clinton's federal retirement allowance from 2001 through the end of this year will run $8 million, compared to $5.5 million for George H. W. Bush's and $4 million for Jimmy Carter's during the same period.

Since 2001, Clinton has received more of almost every benefit available to former presidents -- from his pension to his staff's salaries and benefits to supplies. His $420,000 phone bill and $3.2 million office rent tab both nearly surpassed the totals rung up for those purposes by Bush, Carter and the late former presidents Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan combined. As a group, they spent $484,000 on telephone service and $3.8 million on rent in the same span.

Politico's analysis comes on the heels of the release last week of seven years' worth of Clinton family tax documents. They showed that the Clintons pulled in $111 million in total income from 2000, their last year in the White House, through 2007.

Here's Hill's tax statement: http://www.hillaryclinton.com/feature/returns/

Interesting note, the $10 million in charitable donations only took place after her announcement to run for president. [}:)]

With 100 million and the statement " I'm not taxed enough" don't you think bill could at least foot the bill for his office rent and coffee service?  Come on guy make an effort to live what you preach!

I wish I could "feel his pain"!

I guess I'm confused.  Are these existing benefits  he's taking advantage of?  Or is this some special under the table deal he's made?

It sounds like it's something offered to all presidents.

Help me out here.  What exactly am I supposed to be outraged about?

They give more to charity than all the other candidates combined, but her detractors still find ways to criticize her.

Pitiful.

She has released more tax information for more years than any other candidate ever. Yet they were criticized for not doing it the same day as Obama.

Pitiful Political Poppycock.

Let's have a look at your tax records spoonbill.

After announcing a run for office and to the Clinton Family Trust.  And still, as a percent of income it is not more than the others.  Not to mention the Trust has distributed less than 50% of that money, and most often to strategic interests.   Like naming libraries after super delegates who shortly thereafter come out to endorse her.

If I give money to cannon_fodder_trust, write it off, then donate it to the mayors election campaign in exchange for a job - is that really philanthropy?    Kudos for giving away $10mil, but certainly not the pure altruism your making it out to be.

I'm inclined to give the Clintons the benefit of the doubt with their charitable giving.

Having been behind the scenes and seeing the nitty-gritty of a few nonprofit organizations myself, it's been my experience that the IRS is rigorous and picky in making sure things are above board.

I believe there are discretionary perks like office staff and office rent for former Presidents.  The point Spoonbill is making is that Bill Clinton could get by with a less fancy office and less staff, if he so chose to.

That was a huge issue when Clinton set up office in Harlem- the total cost of it when he could have gone far more modest.

Retired as of last month.  My tax records are ancient history.  As for my contributions. . . a lot of old cardigans to goodwill!

Any proof to her charitable giving being used to name a library after a superdelegate?

In 2006, McGovern opened the George and Eleanor McGovern Library and Center for Leadership and Public Service. It wasn't a library named later as you imply.

McGovern said in early 2007 he was endorsing Hillary.

In late 2007, Hillary made a small contribution to the library. Republican representative John Thune made the same donation.

Why the misleading information?
