Title: And the winner is......TRAVIS!
Post by: Wrinkle on April 07, 2008, 11:28:06 PM
What a game!!

And, got to see every second of it due to the professional handling of KOTV's Travis Meyer.

Not once did I feel uninformed or wonder about the weather situation.

Thankfully, it didn't turn out bad like it might have, but I knew Travis was there watchin' out for us while we watched the game.

Thanks Travis.

And you thought we were doing good UNTIL...

2:40 AM and I got woken up by Tornado Sirens.

I live at I-44 & Riverside.

The alleged tornado is headed towards Sperry/Turley.

I got woken up for nothing!!

(Yes, I know, Trav is not in charge of the sirens)

Prior to that, though, the tornadic areas were headed toward Tulsa.  That has been quite a night.  No sleep for me!

Talk about some hail. Bigger than golf balls. I hope inteller had his car in the garage. The car dealers are going to be pissed.

The retention pond in my backyard was quite a sight with the hail coming down like rain and sending splashes several feet in the air. It sounded like it was boiling. [B)]

yeah, looks like my search for a new car has been postponed since the Infiniti dealership is probably not looking too good about right now.

We didn't get golf ball at 101st/memorial....but the quarter size stuff will be enough to start the hail sales at the various dealerships.  I think about all of those nice BMWs....trashed.

My car is ALWAYS parked in a garage somewhere.

we had ping pong ball sized hail from about 3 till 330 or so.  Some of the largest hail I have seen and I have lived here all my life.  Also the longest hail storm I have ever witnessed.  Luckily our new bmw was in the garage along with my company car.

I agree that Travis did a great job during the game. I actually wasn't looking forward to watching the game because I was so used to being oversaturated with weather, but that wasn't the case last night.
Maybe the other networks can learn from Travis (hint hint John Slater!!)

Hee, the coverage @ 3:30-4 was interesting.  Poor little Katie Green driving around Claremore, and a very pissed off sounding Craig Day giving a report from his house, I presume, with Travis admonishing him that another stornado was heading his way, I guess so Craig wouldn't crawl back in bed.  Power Play by Travis!

Yea the hail was my biggest concern. My garage is full of giant 14foot rolls of canvas so couldnt pull the car in. I could sneak under the Promenade parking garage if I needed to, so kept my eye on that little eyedropper thing as it ran over the storm showing the possible hail sizes for the part of the storm that was heading towards my house lol. Just had pea to dime sized hail here thank goodness.

Had my previous car brutalized by a hail storm a couple years back. It was a mess. Its not the deductible, its the time and hassle getting everything fixed, filling out paperwork, getting estimates, getting rental car, waiting in offices, etc. etc.

I am glad the sirens go off, even if there isnt a tornado. If there is a good possibility for large hail, I want to know and be woken up before I hear my cars being pummeled. lol

I didn't hear anything and I live near that area.  The first storm woke me up around 3-ish.  That's a little disconcerting.

I might have my white noise machine up too loud.

That's one of the significant advantages to driving old used cars. The dings don't matter so much, as long as the windshield doesn't get broken. ;)

The first serious hail storm I was in hit in Arkansas. It happened to be in hit only about a week after I had moved into a new house that a friend of mine had just bought. (he rented me a room for a couple of years) I was jolted awake at six o'clock in the morning to the sound of hail between the size of golf balls and baseballs hitting the house. It was very eerie, what with the dim red morning light streaming in through the east facing windows while the house was being pummeled.

It didn't occur to me until later that my car might be damaged.

They wont save you from anything. They alert you that a tornado or severe winds are possibly heading your way.

If its at night and your sleeping and the sirens go off.   They will wake you up, cause you to turn on the news and realize extreme weather with bad hail is headed your way. You can then park your cars in a safe place. Just as they can alert you to the possibility or the fact that there is a Tornado headed your way, or strong winds, they could also alert you to the possibility that there is bad hail. I think its worth it.

Even an old car can look pretty bad with some large hail. My car looked like someone had taken a machine gun to it. It dented stuff I didnt know could get dented. The roof of course, the tops of the door frames, the side panels, the hood of the car, etc. I practically needed a whole new exterior. I remember after that storm all the repair places were just inundated with people in a similar condition. My car needed like 7,000 dollars worth of repairs. Then there were literally hundreds of other cars I am sure. Not to mention just the time and hassle of getting it fixed.

It was the same hail storm that ruined the fiber optic lights on the expo center. I went by the next evening and you could see where the hail had hit the cables and light either stopped there or shone through those spots. Its why I also worry about the Arena. All that shiny metal siding would really show every dent. I hope its strong enough to handle a good ol Oklahoma hail storm. That siding had better be stronger than the metal on my car or its gonna look like crap when it does eventually get hit.

I don't know how you didn't get golf ball sized hail at 101st and Memorial when we certainly did at 101st and Sheridan.  Had two cars that lost windows, with one estimate already back at $4100.  Waiting on another estimate on my truck, which should be a little less, then, I'll bet my roof gets totaled.

well we didn't.  I guess we are just lucky that way.  I surveyed my roof today (and went in the attic to check for unseen damage) and it looks fine.  Some of my yard furniture was slightly damaged but no biggy, it was well worn anyways.  I didn't really see a lot of cars at the dealerships damaged so I guess the worst of the hail was trailing off by then.

Still, get your adjuster out, you'd be amazed what hail can do to a comp shingle roof.

Hail sales are always a great deal for a car dealer.  They get settlement checks from the insurance company and wind up selling the cars for not much less than they would deal down to in the first place- quite a racket.

Not much hail damage I could see or hear at 15th & Harvard.  There was some of the loudest and most prolonged thunder I've ever leard last night.  Worst part was, I was already not sleeping well due to a stomach bug.

Having gone through this before, you CAN NOT tell by looking at your roof if it is fine or not.  A roof-guy has to get on the roof and look under the shingles, that is where the damage is.  Last time I went through this, I also thought my roof was fine...... until the three different roof companies and my insurance company came out and all said the roof was totaled.

I personally watched the hail fall and I didn't get golf ball sized, so I'm really not concerned.

Under the shingles? So you're saying golf ball sized hail is punching holes through plywood?

now think about that ridiculous statement for a second, if there were holes in the plywood, don't you think I could see those from the outside?  i never said or implied such.

The damage is to the underside of the shingle, not under the shingle.

Up here in Bartlesville in 2000 we got grapefruit-sized hail.  It went through 2 layers of shingles and 1" of plywood and went into our attic.  Those water stains on the ceiling were annoying till we got them fixed.  [:P]

sux that you had all that happened down there and yep those poor Infinitis (I don't like BMWs so have at that lot).
